Ballerina
This movie was a bit of a disappointment. I remember watching the trailers and feeling excited but still not expecting much.
The story is weak, the animation is regular and the characters are so bland, forgettable and are not charming at all. It made me sad.
But I still love watching animated films.

Trolls
This movie was actually a lot better than I thought it would be.
Really cool animation and tons of bright colors, it had great music and a basic but fun story.

Moana
I obviously watched Moana a long time ago, back when it premiered but I’m trying to get back on the whole writing reviews groove.
I was disappointed that the movie didn’t get an oscar but it’s okay, cause I don’t really take those awards that seriously anymore.
One thing I’m still upset about is that Maui get so much flipping attention most of the time. He’s always the one being the focus of every official art for the movie. Like in this poster he’s right in the middle with his stupid grin. Don’t get me wrong, I like him but I wish Moana would have the spotlight more.
And there’s also the whole Dwayne this and Dwayne that. “Moana! Dwayne Johnsons’ newest movie!” It makes me a bit angry. I get that he’s the biggest name in the movie but it’s not his, you know what I mean?
I do like him but I don’t want the message of a strong woman get lost because of his over the top personality.
Enough rant. The movie is beautiful and awesome. Ya’ll know it.

Day 87
Doctor Strange
I liked this movie a lot more than I was expecting
It was a lot less shitty than the other marvel movies. It was far more interesting than the usual story they usually give us and it appealed more to me because magic and spiritual situations are far more interesting for me.
The one thing that still pissed me off is that the main character always goes through the transformation from the shittiest most selfish egocentric asshole to a decent person. Like, why can’t we just have a broken person that is nice and then gets power to transform their life into something better and to help people. I get why seeing an asshole transform into a “good” person (that’s debatable because they keep being very high of themselves and shitty) but it got old, thanks to the stupid Tony Stark, who I despise.
But the movie is very nice. It’s got solid jokes and a nice soundtrack. It did feel a little bit slow paced but overall it was very interesting and fun to watch. I kinda wanna know more about the kind of energy/magic worked and that’s the kind of engagement that the other Marvel movies lack.
But it’s a fun movie to watch.
btw Tilda Swinton was bomb as usual. And I know that her casting was a bit controversial but like honestly I’m going to be a selfish feminist and approve of her appearance because she’s iconic. I wish that there were more girls though. There some bad girls on the movie but they weren’t relevant, no lines and no name. I need more girls on movies.

Day 84
Vacancy
This was a pretty ordinary horror movie.
It involves torture and sexual assaults kinda and that’s not really my thing.
The ending was bad. I don’t really recommend it.

Inside (À L’Intérieur)
This movie was so cool. I enjoyed it a lot.
If you’re into gore and home invasion films this is a must.
It’s very raw and bloody and crazy.
It’s a lot of fun.

Day 82
Kubo and the Two Strings
This movie was so beautiful and in the end I felt sad but I still had a great time watching it.
I think that the one thing that could’ve been even better, and this might be a fail from my part cause I could only watch it in spanish so sometimes the dubbing takes away the sound intensity, but I felt like the soundtrack was missing power (?). It was great, but it didn’t blew me away.
But still.
It’s such a pretty movie, with such dark images and with beautiful character designs. It made me so happy. It really warmed my heart to see such a sense of community represented in an animated movie.
It was amazing.
Everyone should watch this movie.

Day 81
Creep
This movie was disappointing considering how good the reviews were.
I’d say it’s a fun watch if you’re not someone that’s a horro aficionado, otherwise you won’t be impressed with the results.
It’s still a good movie but it gets a bit dull with the annoying jump scares.

Day 80
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
I have a long ass opinion about this movie.
I would rate it with a 5/10 because it really found balance between being extremely boring and confusing to being very engaging and interesting.
Nowadays when I hear Tim Burton’s name before a movie title not only do I cringe but my eyes roll to the back of my poor head. He turned into a name that annoyed me because of how manufactured his creativity felt over the years (I completely blame Alice in Wonderland). I liked him because everyone was OBSESSED with him and I honestly thought he was okay.
And then this precious snowflake of a director decided to justify his lack of POC in his cast as an aesthetic, as his style. He can suck my dick. People defended him claiming the old ass story of “there’s no way black people could’ve been in the story, it’s historically incorrect” and that is bullshit.
GUYS THE MOVIE IS ABOUT A BUNCH OF KIDS THAT GET HUNTED FOR BEING STRANGE AND DIFFERENT!!!
Honestly how is it different than from what the United States is going through right now? Why would it have been impossible for a POC to be peculiar and to be saved buy one of the bird ladies???
The most annoying part was Samuel L. Jackson defending Tim Burton’s decisions and justifying it by saying it was his style and shit. Of course he would say that because he’s got this huge career from being the only black man considered for any roles, why would he want competition...
Tim Burton and the people that defended him can kiss my ass.
But coming back to the movie....
I thought that the movie really flourished as an interesting tale when it didn’t involve the stale main character and his vapid love interest. The movie did a poor job developing the characters that did seem interesting for the sake of keeping in the spotlight the boring and cringy love story of a boy that’s in love with a character from his bedtime stories and a girl that misses the boy’s grandpa and is into him because “he looks just like him”
The other characters were simply better. A guy that can give life to death things???? How can you not focus on him instead. A girl with fire powers, snake twins that turn you into stone, a baby girl with a monster mouth behind her head!!! Why do I have to watch a girls that floats when I have such exquisite beings to marvel on?
Don’t take my rant as such a negative thing. It’s just very annoying to see the same people falling in love on the big screen. It gets very boring and considering how much freedom I’m sure Burton get’s just for being himself, he could’ve done so much better. But he’s actually more narrow minded than you would expect I think.
At some points the movie felt a lot like the Percy Jackson movies (?). Something about the atmosphere when they were fighting made me think of that.
But it’s still a fun movie if you can get through the annoying parts. I do want to see what happens next, or maybe read the books in hopes to have a more diverse and fun character design.
The good parts I would say where the other peculiar children, part of Samuel L. Jackson’s character and maybe the special effects? There were some good things.

Day 79
Storks
Guys, I was prepared to hate this movie but I couldn’t. Anything that involves adorable babies completely destroys my defenses.
I thought the story was silly and cute and fun.
Tulip was my favorite character. She was so funny and sweet and to reference to the type of character she was, I would say she was a lot like Dory from Finding Nemo without Ellen’s obnoxious voice. She was so endearing and she was the one that made me love the movie.
I think this movie might be very underestimated. Maybe give it a chance? It was fun, for me at least.
