“You don’t seem like the type of guy to have any knowledge on what a Stormtrooper is” Gabriel mumbled, wondering what had brought the beta to town.

David finally took to the streets from his little bookstore walking slowly down the middle of the unused roads, he made no attempt to hide the fact he looked at the guards and he couldn’t see their eyes but he knew they were watching him as well. A few raised their guns, not enough to be considered directly at him but enough that he got the point. Any fishy movement on his part would not be taken lightly, duly noted, how he really just wanted to get one of them alone for just a few minutes he was so curious to what their motives could be, why come to a town that had no issues with the outside communities that surrounded it? They caused no real harm to others, no more than the average town. “To get into any one of their heads right now.” He mutters to himself though he sensed another was close by.
“You’d be met with a brick wall. I doubt they really think about much since they just stand there and glare all day” Gabriel mused, having caught up with the other as he’d slowed his pace.

“Sh!” Charlotte barked at the person behind her. There was no need to turn her attention around, for she’d smelt their approach before her ears had picked up the fine steps and crunch their weight left behind against the ground. Her attention had been turned towards a few guards as they spoke, hoping to catch anything that would soon come in handy. “Be quiet. I can’t hear if you keep making all that noise.”
Charlotte, one of the packs most respected, was one of the last people Gabriel expected to bump into. Considering fleeing the scene the black sheep decided the information those guards held was too invaluable. So instead he crept closer, keeping his distance from the she wolf. “If you can’t hear over a few crunching leafs, you’re hearing is blocked.”

Her eyes turned to search for his, his reaction confusing. Though, she didn’t find her normal compassion for his situation. Instead, she found compassion for her own - and maybe that made her selfish. But, she’d left people behind, too. Hell, she’d been left behind more times than she could count. “You could have stayed with your parents, Gabe. What was I going to do? Stayed with my Mom? Who was never home, always whoring herself out to whoever was the man of the day? Or, maybe my Dad? Oh, wait - who the fuck is he? And siblings? Unheard of. You were it, for me! So, yeah! I was selfish and I needed you to come with. You had plenty of options. I didn’t.” She shook her wrist out of his grasp, taking steps away, retreating like a hurt puppy, “We have different perspectives, because we’ve lived different lives. I’ll never know what it feels like to lose a sibling, and you’ll never know what it feels like to have absentee parents. You just never understood me. Not really. Maybe I never understood you, either. But, don’t act like you’re the only person who knows what it feels like to fucking hurt.” She shook her head, “I worked my ass off for years to make the pack like me. You never even tried. You shouldn’t have come if you hated them so bad. I would have been fine by myself. I always have been.”
“You are apart of that family -- my family -- Iliana, we could have stayed with them...” he muttered, his exhaustion snuffing out the spark that had alighted his vexation. Making no attempts to recover the fiery wolfs wrist, Gabriel simply slumped back into his wearied hunched posture. He had no energy to fight this little ball of fury, not tonight anyway. “Okay Iliana” the wolf’s husky timbre replied as he concealed the pain oozing from deep cuts her words inflicted. She’d always been such a hothead, never really thinking about her actions until the fallout. Gabriel however knew when enough was enough, thus in this moment he’d withdrawn, white flag in hand. “I think -- I should probably go Iliana...”

A part of her wanted to chuckle. If only he knew. Her mother was more than just a bitch. Or disturbed. Or sick. If there was a true embodiment of evil in this world it would be her mother, even though she’s been dead for over a century. Her presence still lingered everywhere Gemma went. And it haunted her.
“Yeah I suppose.” She whispered. This was not time for show and tell. If showing some scars to help the wolf relate would move the situation along then so be it. His lying was an obvious sign that he never truly trusted her. But now trust was a two way street and it lacked on either side. Showing who she truly was, was a lot harder than she expected though, because now a sea of memories were threatening to flood her thoughts. Pulling her hand from his grasp, she turned back around.
Like second nature her own hand encased her wrist, almost trying to ease a pain that was no longer there. A burning she’d experienced a lifetime ago yet it only felt like seconds. It took a lot more effort to keep things like this hidden, especially from her brother, so she knew she had to get herself together and quickly. The wolf had seen too much already. Even still, through the scorching, the lingering of his touch seemed to cool and relax Gemma unconsciously. “You shouldn’t hide them. Scars..are beautiful. Wear them like a badge of honor.” She advised in a monotone voice. “What’s your name wolf? Your real one this time.”
The iron wall veiled the Queen’s emotional vulnerability on such an obvious touchy subject. It wasn’t as though his parents had ever been abusive -- more neglecting -- to him thus he couldn’t exactly fathom how a parent could scar a child so brutally. The fury of thoughts twisting in that chaotic mind decided against commenting further. It was already clear how thin the line he’d been treading on was. -- She didn’t trust him therefore he had no right to be prying into her past, he respected that.
Tender digits squeezed with an unspoken comfort, however almost immediately she’d abandoned his touch. Lingering in discomfort Gabriel scratched at the nape of his neck before swiftly concealing his exposed chest once again. Honeyed irises focused on the stubborn buttons, attempting to distract himself from gazing at the raven haired beauty in fear of being caught. “-- They’re more of a reminder, for me at least” he challenged with his own back brazenly turned as he wandered the room with curious eyes. “-- Gabriel Mueller... resident black sheep in the Voltaire pack.”

“Only you would jump to that conclusion” Gabriel mused, honeyed irises drunk on every inch of her body. No matter how much time passed he couldn’t help becoming intoxicated by Eliza’s presence.

The vampire flashed him a mocking eye roll. Figures the wolf would get defensive now out of all times. Especially when he earned no right to be. Asking him to be vulnerable with her was an impossible task, yet, something he’d have to pull through. He’d lost all respect the minute he came clean. Now it just attributed to how much he truly wanted to earn her trust back.
Besides, just because she couldn’t touch doesn’t mean she couldn’t see. This skin of his torso was riddled with scars, both deep and shallow. It was beautiful. His body was lean but had all the perks of a wolf. Leaner wolves usually meant faster, swifter, easier to teach as opposed to ones who were built like a boulder. He was a good candidate physically. His mind just seemed to be questionable. One Gemma was still figuring out how to come at.
Letting out a huff, she twisted her wrist in his grip. Not enough to pull away, but just enough to bring his attention to it. “These are mines.” She said. To the human eye they were invisible, something you’d only get a glimpse of if lucky. One of the many upsides of being a vampire was that within transition, all mortal wounds and blemishes practically vanished. But those with heightened senses could still see them. It’s what pushed Gemma to usually cover up the dainty skin. Those she surrounded herself with didn’t need to jump to conclusions about what the scars she hid so well actually were. And to share them with the wolf was a moment of strategy, not weakness; never weakness. “My mother had a very unique parenting style, I suppose.”
The dominance he’d acquired moments ago had dimmed like a suffocated flame desperate for air to ignite it once again. The heavy gaze of those azure hues shrunk him to the size of an ant as she inspected his physical insecurities. In the pack he’d always been deemed as somewhat a runt due to his lack of masculinity. Yet calculation had etched itself into Gemma’s stoic visage, questioning Gabriel’s use obviously.
A hesitant tongue darted across dried petals -- a nervous tendency of his. The wolf so desperately wanted to conceal himself once again. Awkwardness grasped the wolf in an iron grip, considering his mind had yet to be clouded by the dopamine Gemma’s petals would easily create if she’d wanted to.Thus he stood awaiting her dismissal -- or worse -- death penalty.
His grip loosened around Gemma’s porcelain wrist.The vampire could have simply removed his arm with one swift movement yet she chose to linger. Thick furrowed brows arched as he considered the queens utterance. Her scars were no surprise to him -- everyone had them. It was the ones concealed by the mind that caused the most damage. Those were the scars he was sure the Queen refused to even reveal to herself. Curious caramel irises trailed after his index finger tracing the almost translucent mark. “Your mother sounds like a bitch -- no offence” he added cautiously, what’s another nail in the coffin?
Her face fell even further,staring into the face of her cousin, who she hardly recognized anymore. The fight had always been between Caleb and Gabriel - Iliana was always just looking out for the best interest of Gabe. In her opinion, at least. She would have gone to the end of the Earth to protect him, but she wasn’t enough. “I CARE, Gabe! They don’t care about you, you say the pack doesn’t, but I do. And, that.. means nothing. It’s never been about me! It’s always been about you. I thought we’d be safest here, I thought if we stuck together, we’d be safe. I thought if I tried to keep you from Eliza, that you’d be safe. Everything I’ve ever done since I’ve met you was for you! But, whatever Gabriel. You want it to be about you? Then.. whatever. Don’t worry about me. Think about yourself.”
“No --” the wolf dismissed with an unusual dominant timbre as unsteady digits wrapped around Iliana’s petite wrist. She’d meant everything to the young wolf, from the day they’d met Iliana had brightened up his bleak world. It was an almost impossible decision to make however, against his better judgement, Gabriel had followed Iliana rather than stuck it out with his family. So it should have been obvious how much she meant to him. “I could have stayed with my parents, found a new pack, a new leader -- one that hadn’t sacrificed my brothers life for his pride. I came because I didn’t trust that Caleb could take care of you... We had plenty of options but we were impulsive...” she was impulsive, his logic had screamed for more time to work out a better plan. “I guess it’s obvious we both have different perspectives...”
“The cabello’s are charged with finding the person behind these cameras and their location. Us, we’re charged with destroying them.” Her voice clipped, not quite pleased to be working with the Cabello’s. But even Charlotte knew that her distaste had to be pushed aside for the good of her pack.
“Since when has Caleb been open to working with the Cabello’s?” it was another nail in the coffin considering his leader had scolded him for even mentioning the Cabello’s months ago.
‘ okay – well – good riddance. we’re on the same page for once. ’
“Someone call the Catholic church, we have a miracle on our hands.”

Gemma moved in slowly during the wolf’s little story time. Her eyes locked on his as he spoke, each word more intense than the last. To see him spit such hatred about his supposed alpha was astonishing. It made her wonder what his other wolves truly thought of him. She’d known Caleb wasn’t a noble ruler from the start, and it was only more amusing to Gem that slowly his own people were turning against him.
Her lips quirked in curiosity to hear about his brother, about his scars. “Not surprised. That sounds like Caleb.” She didn’t feel bad for him. People died for less everyday, it was just a fact of life. To see him going to such an extent just for his own validation of revenge showed his growth from that. It was…admirable, to say the least. Not enough for forgiveness but maybe for a spec of respect sometime in the near future.
His voice ended in a quiver, so for awhile the small queen just stared. Stared at his eyes, the loneliness that lingered within those depths. His face looked defeated and his shoulders hunched forward. Since the first time she’d met him, he finally appeared as the lost boy he truly was. Sighing, her hands trailed his torso and began to unbutton the shirt that hung on his frail frame. “I’m curious,” she mused after a moment. Pushing the shirt over his shoulders, she paid no mind as to where it fell; now her hands slowly traced his chest. “I want to see just how damaged you really are, wolf.”
As the proximity between them diminished Gabriel’s entire being tensed readying himself for defence. The stoic queen was completely unreadable which caused anxiousness to stir in the deepest pit of his stomach. What if he had said the wrong thing? What if it was impossible to come back from lying? What if she decided to end his life right here? -- Out of Caleb or Gemma, he did prefer this option.
Gabriel’s frantic heart counted the drawn out seconds with its beating. Unfortunately it was impossible to conceal these tells from the icy vampire. Honeyed orbs gazed down at the petite ruler standing tall in front of him. As those slender orbs reached out he took a step back, considering whether she was about to hand him his heart -- literally. As he eased into her touch Gabriel searched for words the eluded him. His mind was far too aware of Gemma’s busily working digits as they caused his shirt to disappear. Momentarily he was taken back to countless times a certain golden haired succubus had done the same as he fell under a spell of submission. Dispelling the haziness Gabriel wrapped strong fingers around the brunette’s dainty wrist. No one, apart from Eliza, had seen his scars let alone touched them. “Don’t touch” he cautioned with a stern timbre. As much as Gemma was now his queen -- his leader -- she hadn’t earned the right to be so intimate with him, no matter how much he may have craved it in the moment.
“Normal is vastly overrated anyway,” Tess insisted as she brushed her hand against the bark of a tree, making lichen grow at her fingertips, “I got so tired of hiding what I was back home. My secret didn’t come out the way I wanted it to…,” her mom getting arrested hadn’t been included in that, “But I finally got to embrace who I was with the people around me. It actually was a little bit of relief.”
“Until you were trapped in a town with those people I bet” Gabriel added, their situation with the barrier still left a bitter taste in his mouth. All he ever wanted to be was normal, to attend college, to venture off on a world tour, to find love and to settle down. Instead he was trapped like an animal in a circus cage.
“Destroy everyone we run across. It’ll save us some time. Until we think of something more concrete and figure out where the signal is going and coming from.”
“And how are we going to find out where the signals are coming from? Are one of the pack mates a secret technical genius or something?” considering they lived off the land, it had been frowned upon to indulge themselves with technology from the outside world. However this was another rule Gabriel hadn’t exactly abide by when sneaking into the Cabello territory.
“You can. I’ll talk to someone or something, no one even knows yet. You can still pretend it never happened.” Her expression dropped, though, nearly slapped with his next words. He belonged here, away from her. It was the story of her life - family walks away, and she’s left behind, wondering. She felt she didn’t quite belong anywhere, and there was a deep yearning to run home to Chicago or Michigan once all of this was over. But, it’d be no different. “We’re family. I always thought we belonged together. And, these people don’t really care about you. But, I do. You can’t.. I need you. Gabe.”
“But it did happen, and I’m not going back” bitten lips concealed the apology he so desperately wished to add, however he knew she’d only use it against him. It was time to put himself first. His desires and needs would be his number one priority from now on. Though the heartbreaking expression etched into his cousins face almost reeled him back in. “I know they don’t care, but neither does Caleb or the pack Iliana -- not about me. He’s wanted me gone since the day I decided to challenge his authority... At least here I’m heard. This isn’t about you anymore Iliana, this is about me. I can’t stay somewhere I’m miserable despite you being there...” he confessed, having wished she’d heeded his pleas for her to give him space. “I will always be here for you, I promise.”
