Oyambre in Cantabria, Spain. September, 2016. After a long drive through Portugal and Spain we made a stop in Oyambre natural park to surf some peaks at Playa de Gerra. Thats where we met our friend Ruben from Italy that actually was living like a local there! I first met Ruben in my hometown Costa da Caparica, 20 minutes by car, south of Lisbon. A very consistent spot where you can surf most of the days all year long! So, Ruben can speak spanish as a native and he knows all the spots around the north coast of Spain. He showed us around and made sure we would enjoy every minute by his side! So, Playa de Gerra is a funny and consistent beach break. West part next to the jetty gets more crowded but its a scape for bigger days and the East part with the hills in the back is the best spot in my opnion! You can find a long and powerfull wave that will allow you to perform in the best level! Mainly uncrowded and even when it’s crowded the locals are very open and nice! If you’re arround there you can also drive to Picos de Europa which is the mountains near by that are totally worth it to visit! You can drive there and then do several hikes in the middle of nature! You will find many friendly animals as cows and sheeps, so be friendly to them as well!
