❝ a pavement of the past
As the first and only son of Rafael and Camila Alvaro, the coven leaders of the small but powerful coven at Summerdale, Gabriel was born with a silver spoon in his mouth but with that also came expectations and responsibilities weighing him down since a very young age. He was expected to be perfect and nothing less, with his grades and his magic, the way he behaved and even with the friends he made. It felt like nothing he did was what he wanted to do, his parents deciding his every move under the guise of doing what was best for him. They loved him though, and wanted what was best for him, but what they thought was best for him and what he wanted never seemed to coincide – not that Gabe ever told them that. Or even admitted it to himself. He simply lived by their wishes, doing everything that was asked of him to be the perfect son. He had very few friends who knew his true self, some who wanted him to follow his own dream and passions, and some just like him, who believed with him that family was everything – and he always chose his family over everything else. His dreams and freedom was not as important as being what his parents wanted him to be. Straying away from the path that had been carved for him was not something he could allow himself to do.
It was not till he went away to California and study did he really begin to experience life the way he wanted. And once he got a taste of how life could be without someone orchestrating his every step, he began to crave it, the freedom, beginning to travel far and wide whenever he could and experience life to the fullest. Every weekend was a new trip with new people, and with time passing, he wished to return back home lesser and lesser. He always knew at the back of his mind that this would never last, that he would have to go back home, to his parents and revert back to the person whom he used to be before and he hated it. He was on the verge of turning away from his family and beginning a new life else where, without their interference but everything changed when Summerdale was hit.
He crumbled when he found out that his parents were dead and gone. While he had his qualms with them, he loved them more than anything else and they had always cared for him even if it wasn’t in the way he wanted them to and hearing of their death hit him hard. Several of his friends were gone too – his home and everything he knew was destroyed and Gabe didn’t know how to get back up from this blow. A part of him even blamed himself, he had wanted his freedom so badly – and now he had it. Except that it had come to him at such a huge price. It felt almost like a betrayal to move on with his life when he knew that his parents were gone and they wanted something completely different from him and so he moved to Hollowgrove to start over, a life atleast somewhat like what they would have wanted.
❝ the nature of the beast
As a child he grew up as someone who put everyone else’s wishes over his own and that was something Gabe carried into his adulthood as well. He was self-sacrificing to the point where it ended up hurting him to be so, but he has learnt to draw a line, to see for himself when he was being naive and to stop himself from being used. As much as he loved his freedom, and craved it too, and wanted more that anything to live in the moment, he was trained to live by certain rules from a very young age and he held on to that after his parents died. He strove to be what they had wanted him to be, despite yearning to be himself. He constantly struggled with who he truly was, but he subconsciously believed that was the only part of him which connected him to the family he had and held onto it like his life depended on it.
