outwardly neji seems very calm but inside he’s boiling with rage and resentment. he meditates but it’s to control himself and make sure he doesn’t burst out. he enjoys the quiet and peace because internally he’s so chaotic that he likes to put himself somewhere where he’s free to relax.

tenten seems very chaotic and loud, and internally it’s kind of the same, but she’s content in a way neji isn’t. she likes what she does, she doesn’t really give a fuck about what’s going on around her beyond how it helps her accomplish what she wants. her thoughts are chaotic but that’s more of an adhd thing. she’s insecure but her training and missions help quiet that. she’s at peace with herself in a way neji isn’t.

i think this is why he’s drawn to her. his external calm and internal chaos are the direct opposite to tenten’s external chaos and internal satisfaction. they reassure and help each other and just match really well. he calms her insecurities and she gives him an outlet for his anger. neji attempts to emulate tenten’s idgaf nature and tenten tries to be more confident in herself with neji’s encouragement.
