I'M NOT INVOLVED WITH IT AT ALL!!! I've just been loosely following it for a while. I think the image is likely of Mariko, the hair parting, face shape, and mouth all line up. If I were her, I don't know how comfortable I would be with strangers scouring the internet for an old unflattering photo that was used to bully me, maybe trying to get in contact with me because of it.

On the other hand, she doesn't seem to be present on the internet like she was in 2005, Maybe she doesn't know it's happening, or doesn't care.

Regardless, the collective effort is an impressive testament to digital archival, and I personally do find beauty in a dedicated group of people working their asses off (sometimes risking run-ins with the law) to look beyond a misogynistic distortion and acquire an image of a woman who was once deemed undesirable and repulsive.

Just finished Serial Experiments Lain. Absolutely beautiful work about the fragile malleability of the ego and the violent tearing of the veil of perception endemic to the internet age. Struck some deep chords within me as a tech addicted hermit. I want to make something that makes others feel like I did when viewing this.
