My Personal Mario Series Headcanons
The reason why the current Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong’s grandson is because the original Donkey Kong Jr. is Donkey Kong’s father. Though unseen, DK’s parents are still out there somewhere.
The original Jumpman and Lady are the parents of Mario, Luigi, and their long-lost sister, Pauline.
Pauline isn’t Mario’s girlfriend or ex-girlfriend, but rather, his and Luigi’s long-lost sister. The hidden truth about their relationship as a family remains a mystery to this day.
Bowser adopted the Koopalings years before his biological son, Bowser Jr., hatched from his egg, starting with Roy and ending with Iggy and Lemmy.
Iggy’s original mohawk was made as a desperate attempt to cover up his true hairstyle that would be revealed in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
The real reason why Bowser was absent from Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 was because he, along with everyone else in the Mushroom World, was preparing for his role in a different movie.
Mario hates his live-action counterpart from the critically-panned 1993 movie, as does Luigi.
The Donkey Kong of the 1994 Game Boy game was actually the original DK Jr., all grown up (who, during his adolescence, participated in Super Mario Kart). The DK Jr. of the same game is actually the current Donkey Kong.
Yoshis have tough heads, meaning they feel no pain from being punched by Mario or hitting their heads on solid blocks.
Following the events of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Kamek cast a spell that removed the Shroob DNA from Bowser’s body and created clones of the entire Shroob race that are still preserved in ice inside Bowser’s Castle.
The Fawful in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is actually a robotic duplicate that was created following his defeat in Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story.
The reason why Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach is because his wife (who is also Bowser Jr.’s biological mother) died immediately after having Jr.’s egg.
The Koopalings love certain types of music: Larry likes techno, Morton likes country, Wendy likes pop, Iggy and Lemmy like hip-hop, Roy likes heavy metal, and Ludwig likes classical.
Luigi is Mario’s younger twin brother by only a few minutes.
Princess Peach secretly regrets the choice she made at the end of Super Mario Odyssey, as she loves Mario too much to truly reject him.
As revealed in BS Super Mario USA, Wart is not the true king of Subcon. Rather, he overthrew the real king prior to the events of Super Mario Bros. 2 (known as Super Mario USA in Japan).
Peach actually rejected Prince Haru sometime after the events of the Japan-only movie, Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach.
Bowser’s true form in Super Mario 64 (and only Super Mario 64) is named “Ultimate Bowser”, which is why the final boss theme of the game is given its Japanese name “Ultimate Koopa”. The reason behind the rainbow colors of Ultimate Bowser is because he held the Star that was the key to releasing Princess Peach from the stained glass outside her own castle.
The reason why Larry Koopa has never appeared in any Mario Tennis game is because he didn’t want to be separated from the rest of the Koopalings.
Nintendo exists in the Mushroom World as a special place somewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom connecting it to the Real World.
Waluigi hates not having a starring role and being an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros., all at the same time.
Wario and Waluigi are actually cousins to each other, which is the reason why they team up together.
Daisy has been aspiring for a starring role in a video game ever since her friend, Peach, got one in 2006′s Super Princess Peach.
Rosalina’s parents are still alive, but they’re both hiding somewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom. No one knows who they are, though, because no one has ever seen their faces before except Rosalina.
Rosalina took up the guitar after hearing Jump Up, Super Star! for the first time. She commonly plays lullabies to her Lumas.
Mario hates Bowsette.
Luigi hates Weegee.
During the events of Super Mario Bros. 3, Bowser let a single Koopa Troopa write the letter sent to the Mario Bros. after rescuing the King of Pipe Maze, which is why the letter is signed differently in all but the Game Boy Advance remake.
Donkey Kong’s Banana Hoard is accessible by either the hole that a Krusha made or in a tunnel connected to DK’s Treehouse.
The reason behind King K. Rool’s tattered cape in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is because it sustained damage during his journey back to the Mushroom World after the events of DK: Jungle Climber.
Captain Goomba was actually the first Goomba to be stomped by Mario during the events of Super Mario Bros. This explains why he has a tough head in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser.
Wario’s Castle in Wario World was actually made following the creation of his own planet at the end of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. The events of the Wario Land series actually took place on that planet rather than the Mushroom Kingdom.
The Broodals were the ones who built Honeylune Ridge’s wedding chapel.
Professor E. Gadd is actually penpals with several other scientists like Professor Hector and Dr. Light.
The events of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle actually took place in the dreams of the girl who built her goggles that Spawny wears in the first place.
Bowser can turn into his Giga form similar to how Bruce Banner can turn into the Incredible Hulk: through extreme emotional anger.
The Chaos Emeralds exist in the Mushroom World in the form of star-shaped gemstones of similar colors, though they have no relation to the Crystal Stars.
The events of the Paper Mario series take place inside a storybook; The very same storybook is what triggered the events of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
Yoshi’s Woolly World and Yoshi’s Crafted World both take place in a mystical area in Yoshi’s Island where wool and arts-and-crafts come to life. The same place is where Baby Bowser turned the island into a storybook during the events of Yoshi’s Story.
The events of the 1986 Japan-only Mario movie take place between both Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan).
Mario and his friends are fans of Pokemon, Splatoon, Zelda, Animal Crossing, and other Nintendo properties.
The events of the Mario cartoon and comics both take place in alternate realities where different things happen than they did in the games.
Petey Piranha is actually a genetic experiment created by the Shroobs that failed to meet their expectations. As such, he appears in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time as a boss in the past, and the Princess Peach he swallowed up was actually a life-sized plush doll.
The DK Rap (which was truly composed and remixed differently in the Real World) was actually composed by Funky Kong himself in 1999, and was remixed by him in 2001.
There are variants of the various Mario series voice actors located in a recording studio in the Mushroom World, where they, like their Real World counterparts, play the roles of their respective characters.
Mushrooms are grown like they are in the Real World: They require just the right amount of moisture and light in order to mature.
Dry Bones, and to a lesser extent Dry Bowser, are actually reanimated skeletons created when a Magikoopa (particularly, Kamek) cast a spell to bring back the Koopas that Mario had defeated over the years.
As seen in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, Goombas tend to be very resilient. As such, they can reform their bodies after being stomped before retreating.
Whacka in the original Paper Mario isn’t really the last of his kind, meaning there’s a nature preserve where Whackas roam free and there’s no threat of being hit by hammers.
Hammer Bros. not only are construction workers for the Koopa Kingdom, but some tend to be blacksmiths, forging hammers, boomerangs, and the like.
Peach and Daisy are allergic to dogs. The hat-wearing one in Super Mario Odyssey as well as anthropomorphic canines from various games and especially Chain Chomps, Poulterpup, and Poochy, however, are all hypoallergenic, meaning their allergies don’t flare up when near them.
Wario’s Puffy form is actually the result of bee allergies, as well as allergies towards a venom secreted from select arrows and monsters.
The events of Wario’s Woods on NES take place between Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and the SNES version of Wario’s Woods.
Not only are Yoshis on Isle Delfino created by Bowser Jr.’s Magic Paintbrush, but so are the fruits that they eat, which is why the fruits disappear when in contact with either water or certain baskets.
The golden Princess Peach statue that Mario retrieved in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 became the perfect present for the princess’s birthday.
The cake trap that Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings made for Princess Peach at the start of New Super Mario Bros. Wii was destroyed when the princess herself was taken to their Airship. It was actually made of cotton, cloth, and other inedible stuff that the princess couldn’t chew her way out of.
Bowser’s armored suit used in Yoshi’s Safari was his only means of protection from being shot at by Mario’s Super Scope, despite glaring weak points.
There is a massive nature preserve for Lil’ Oinks that they retreat to, located between Toad Town and Mt. Rugged. No one has ever seen the preserve before, though, which explains why it isn’t on the map in Paper Mario.
Sonic exists in the Mushroom World as a Koopaling-like character that runs so fast, he can’t be seen at all. In fact, even if time froze, he’d still be running at a speed that makes him unseeable.
Boom Boom’s shell spikes are retractable like a cat’s claws, which explains why he didn’t use them in Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario 3D World.
Holidays are celebrated in the Mushroom Kingdom the same way as they are in the Real World. In fact, Mario and his friends often dress up for these occasions. This also applies to the other places in the Mushroom World.
The events of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars takes place before both Yoshi’s Safari and Super Mario 64.
Tatanga retreated to the farthest reaches of the universe following Wario’s defeat in Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins.
Birdo’s true gender is female; many people have claimed her to be either male or cisgender for years.
King K. Rool’s bloodshot left eye is the result of a birth defect that he had ever since he had hatched.
Bluster Kong and Kaptain Skurvy’s pirate crew exist in the games. Bluster owns a condo on a tropical island where he makes barrels for the other Kongs. Skurvy and his pirate crew travel the seven seas of the Mushroom World looking for treasure to plunder.
Despite Luigi’s fear of ghosts, he tends to show great bravery in times of danger. This explains why he whistles when he clears a room of its ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion.
Mrs. Koopa, Bowser’s mother, exists in the games; she’s located on the sea turtle-shaped island neighboring Isle Delfino.
