Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars Review
Oh my god, this game… I don’t have many words for it. I’m not saying it in a good way either. Well, let’s get to it then.
Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars made by Atlus and Spike Chunsoft.
One of the reasons why I even bothered picking up this game is because of the fact that it is Atlus, and I love their games. The other reason was that it seemed to be anime like. And the last reason would be is that Atlus games aren’t cheap after a while. The weird part is; is that I didn’t order the limited edition of it, but the standard and I still got the limited edition. I wanted the standard since I never played this series before, but I won’t complain. I pretty sure I would like this game, but it was underwhelming. Okay, I’ll get back to my usual course of my review.
Alright, here’s the summary of this game. When monsters come to Aterra, so too did the disciples: teenagers with rare abilities to hold the fiends back. Unique even among Disciples, your 100% success rate at producing Star Children blesses you with a special burden- bond with female disciples, raise an army and help your world survive! That’s the summary part harem visual novel and combat.
Onto the characters… There’s not that many that are main though. That’s mainly the protagonist and the females, and the people that actually show up in the story. I’ll be introducing the more important characters since there’s not that many.
The protagonist: a guy who is called “God’s Gift”, because he has a special amount of ether that’s rare to find. It really is in the game, that he’s forced to make children right away to serve his world to extinguish the enemies. His name can be anything, but he can also be given random names for his default. He’s interested in getting stronger to defeat enemies. A second year.
Fuuko Amicus is a pink haired girl that’s an automatic S-rank that can make star children. She is friendly and actually the most normal of the girls. The first girl that is found out about. She is a second year.
Narika Shina is shy and isn’t good at public speaking. She’s also the one with the biggest bust which people point out in the game not as often after a while. Able to create star children and is a second year.
Ellie Troit works for the church, and is on a mission. She’s friendly as well, but she really adores the protagonist because of something in their past. She’s also a first year.
Chloe Genus is a teacher and prodigy for the fact that she graduated at a young age and she’s able to create star children. She’s Chlotz’s sister.
Serina Leaf is your typical small tsundere, who is actually a third year. She helps run her sisters café when not in school or going into the dungeons with the protagonist and the star children.
Torri Feiiji is the strange airhead type. She lived in a research facility, so she has a strange way of speaking. A first year student.
Feene is a third year that is always gone on a mission or she’s in her hometown leading. She’s a lot nicer than she seems. She’s also able to have star children. She’s very talented with her blade that she was in fencing club.
Chlotz Genus is your first friend that you make, and is the brother to Chloe. You can tell by the names… He’s an elite student, but isn’t fighting, but working in the lab. He is also from the same town as Fuuko.
Alec Marker is a rich guy who is an elite disciple. He’s already fighting against their enemies. He seems cold, but he’s more caring than he seems. His family runs a lot of things it seems…
Seriously this games summary wouldn’t catch my interest too much. I thought I would give this game a chance and I did, but man was it mediocre. The game could have a better battle system, the combat is meh, and the player advantage doesn’t happen as often since you can’t strike your enemies first. Then the enemies don’t change up as often as I would hope. I fought the same enemies more than once in a row with the same enemy lineup.
I don’t take this game seriously whatsoever since the summary said it all: dating simulation, combat, harem and lastly visual novel. It does seem like softcore porn is in there too. The only reason why I say that is because of how the star children are made. You would have to see that to understand what I mean. The girls in here are used mainly for that purpose which is horrible and they don’t question it or deny their duty. Which this would not be okay whatsoever in real life, since women shouldn’t be treated as though they don’t have a voice.
Onwards to another issue, the other issue speaks for itself. The story isn’t all that great. Stereotypical harem crap, and the dungeons. Yeah, the dungeons… They seem the same to me no matter where I go in the game. The labyrinths are supposed to be exciting and different each time you go in, but they’re not. Sometimes there’s a little bit of difference, but it’s mostly repetitively the same like the enemies. Their different, but still the same each dungeon. Sometimes the enemies are different usually not. There’s also a perverted old man, who checks out the girls which isn’t strange, but kind of creepy because he also says that he wouldn’t mind doing them in a way. Very creepy. You’ll know who I mean if you play it or look up the game.
The voice acting is good. It’s not the greatest, but this game is subpar, so I don’t think the voice acting is all that great. One of the girls voices is supposed to be an airhead, but she doesn’t need to sound so slow. I just didn’t like that, because she was speaking a little slow, she didn’t be, so yeah that’s just an issue to me. I also didn’t expect the voice of Feene to be as high pitched more than I thought it would be. I was expecting a gentle mature voice, but nope that’s not what it was. There’s of course extras and such as well, but I don’t really care as far as the game is concerned.
My final judgment is probably what you expect. I don’t care for it that much, but it’s a good laugh since I can’t ever take it serious enough. The lackluster gameplay doesn’t help matters. Magical transformations I forgot to mention about, but the magical girls not really anything new, but the protagonist gets one. Now that was something I didn’t expect, but still doesn’t help it for me. Well, you get the drift, I don’t recommend this game. Maybe you’re still interested, then I’d just say take a crack at it.
I don’t really have any recommendations after this since most the games I’m currently playing or review one day would be an otome or something else entirely. That’s it for now. Until next time.
