“The gods that never left.” —Ulmo, Morgoth, Oromë
And Finrod fell before the Throne BY KuraiGeijutsu
“He chanted a song of wizardry, Of piercing, opening, of treachery, Revealing, uncovering, betraying. Then sudden Felagund there swaying sang in answer a song of staying, Resisting, battling against power, Of secrets kept, strength like a tower, And trust unbroken, freedom, escape; Of changing and of shifting shape, Of snares eluded, broken traps, The prison opening, the chain that snaps, Backwards and forwards swayed their song. Reeling and foundering, as ever more strong The chanting swelled, Felagund fought, And all the magic and might he brought, Of Elvenesse into his words. Softly in the gloom they heard the birds Singing afar in Nargothrond, The sighing of the sea beyond, Beyond the western world, on sand, On sand of pearls in Elvenland. Then the gloom gathered; darkness growing In Valinor, the red blood flowing Beside the sea, where the Noldor slew The Foamriders, and stealing drew Their white ships with their white sails From lamplit havens. The wind wails, The wolf howls. The ravens flee. The ice mutters in the mouths of the sea. The captives sad in Angband mourn, Thunder rumbles, the fires burn- And Finrod fell before the throne…” - From The Lay of Leithian by J.R.R. Tolkien.

‘gil galad was an elven king.
of him the harpers sadly sing:
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the mountains and the sea.’
Where do the orcs go?
So going with the Silmarillion canon, Orcs are/are descended from elves twisted by Morgoth, because Morgoth could not create life without Eru. Whether or not they’re immortal is unknown, but they’re at least still longer-lived than humans.
But. Since, at the very least, orcs die in battle…
Where do they go when they die? They’ve got intelligence and personality, so one can assume that they still have souls (even if those souls are corrupted) and in Tolkien’s world, souls don’t just go poof. Dwarves go to Aule, Elves go to Mandos, Humans leave Mandos to fate unknown, but nobody poofs.
Is there a place for orcs in Mandos? Did Namo, with his foresight, make another hall for them, as he and Aule did for the dwarves? Is there a place, safe and quiet and dark, where orcs can finally rest and relearn kindness without an evil overlord? Does Varda reteach them love of light, as Este heals their old pains? Does Nienna show them compassion and weep for them?
Because orcs are evil and cruel, but they were molded and taught to be so. They never had other ways shown to them, other choices. It’s too terrible to think that they vanished into nothing, or languished in the Void with Morgoth when they died.
Bonus: imagine how the elves in Valinor deal when the first untwisted orcs- healed, bodies and minds, but still not exactly elves- emerge re-embodied from Mandos.

The Fëanturi requested by @feanope and Irmo by @elf-in-a-mask! They’re honestly my favorites among the Valar! Thank you for the congrats and the request!
“But the jewel burned the hand of Maedhros in pain unbearable; and he perceived that it was as Eonwe had said, and that his right thereto had become void, and that the oath was vain.”

For all you Tolkien readers out there who are interested in the dragons, this is a size chart of the famous dragons of middle earth. Smaug is slightly bigger than two 747 commercial airline jets and is still the smallest one on the chart. Ancalagon the black makes him look like a speck of dust, which is completely insane!
still is the story of Earendil and Elwing

Been rewatching lotr and brushing up on the Silmarillion. I wish we learned more about the other dragons though. Ancalagon sounds cool af!
