Hey All, I have a "new" (it's actually sat there for about two years now without a single post) Tumblr as I've lost access to this one everywhere but on my phone due to Tumblr being hacked. I have a new car. A shiny mazda 3! Absolutely terrified about adding debt after all the work I've done in the last year to pay off my college loans, but it drives great and I won't have to worry that my car won't start every morning! Progress!

We recently learned that a third party had obtained access to a set of Tumblr user email addresses with salted and hashed passwords from early 2013, prior to the acquisition of Tumblr by Yahoo. As soon as we became aware of this, our security team thoroughly investigated the matter. Our analysis gives us no reason to believe that this information was used to access Tumblr accounts. As a precaution, however, we will be requiring affected Tumblr users to set a new password.

HEY GUYS THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT:

I’ve already been forced to reset my password just now, but I’ve also seen several people on my dash who have basically lost their blogs because they had those blogs tied to defunct e-mail addresses they no longer had access to - and tumblr is giving no option for resetting your password without access to the e-mail they send you

If you haven’t been hit with the password reset yet - and it seems to be rolling out in waves - this would be a really good time to be sure your e-mail preferences are up-to-date in your tumblr account. If you can’t access the reset e-mail when they send it to you, you’re locked out.

Hopefully they’ll fix this or come up with a work-around, but in the meantime, be prepared.

Me. I'm accessing this from the app because for some reason they only forcibly logged you out of the browser version. Had my Tumblr hooked up to my college email that I no longer have access to. And even though I can provide them with that login information, they still won't let me change it.

Way to fuck over a bunch of your users tumblr.

Attention ALL artists!

You sure have seen this post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.

The magic word is Metadata.

Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.

There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!

I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.

Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to. Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.

Like most reasonable people, I find North Carolina’s Anti-transgender law “HB2″ to be abhorrent. Its legalized discrimination under the guise of an excuse we all know is bullshit. I’m actually surprised that its authors are even to say that with a straight face. They know its bullshit, we know its bullshit. So we’re all just sitting here staring at a pile of bullshit as our noses turn progressively upwards at the smell.

I’m angry/offended about a lot of things to do with HB2. I’m angry that its legal to discriminate against a segment of our population again, over fifty years after the civil rights act of 1964 and almost 100 years after women gained the right to vote. I thought we were better than that. I’m offended that the politicians responsible for HB2 think we’re all stupid enough to actually believe their excuse that the purpose of this law is to protect the children from “predators”. I can debunk that right now.

A transgender male can now be arrested for using the men’s bathroom. Legally speaking, he must use the woman’s bathroom. I’m curious as to what legislators think will happen when a post hormone replacement therapy transgender male tries to enter a woman’s bathroom at some walmart out in the country. I can tell you what probably will happen if some redneck sees him try.

As for the whole “protect the children from predators” excuse, think about this. Any male can now enter a woman’s bathroom at the same walmart and, when stopped by an employee, say that he is transgender and must use the women’s bathroom. How will they disprove his claim? ID him (Licenses show a person’s legal sex)? Is that where we’re going next? IDing everyone before they can enter the bathroom?

What is more likely to visually look out of place, A post hormone replacement therapy transgender male walking into a women’s bathroom, or a men’s bathroom?

Back to the predator thing. A child predator isn’t going to stop being a child predator because of HB2. He/She already knows what they’re doing is illegal and immoral. The idea that the legislators responsible for HB2 actually think it would stop child predators is almost as concerning as the law itself. Laws can sometimes serve as a deterrent to crime, but the truth is that most crimes are committed by people who know what they are doing is a crime and just hope to not get caught. HB2 isn’t stopping anyone from committing crimes.

I could honestly go on all day about how little logic there is backing up HB2.
