okay so my whole thing with garak having a shorter snout than other cardassians in my little cardassian reptilian anatomy headcanon
i have an explanation
if any of you remember this, when garak was talking about his father, he mentions his father locked him in a closet as punishment
Now if any of you know about illegal pet trade, alligators are part of it, these alligators are often kept in poor conditions, usually that being enclosures too small for them. These alligators will grow to fit these enclosures leading to stunted snout and overall growth, the snouts also ten to curve upwards, see examples below with the one the only Rex! (the snake discovery fans know what's up)

so yeah, garak has a shorter snout because of that
and i think i may love applying science to these fictional characters a bit too much because wow almost all of my posts have some form of reptile fact tied into them

Cardassians have three eyes (technically)
Most reptiles have a third eye, known as the parietal eye, it helps with telling the time and how to thermoregulate based off light.
it's barely noticeable
but look, here's a perfect spot for a parietal eye on cardassians
furthermore the eyes need to be able to connect to the brain, thus a hole in the forehead
in Picard with the trophy room scene, there's the skull of gul dukat (bonus close up of the prop skull as well next to it)
see the hole, and it's right where cardassian crests (or whatever they're called) are

Even though Cardassians aren’t really reptiles, I think as a mechanism to survive the hottest days/weeks of the Cardassian year they enter a state of suspended animation to stave off the inhospitable weather until conditions improve. Garak’s body clock is still wired to the Cardassian year so it still happens to him despite being on DS9. The first time it happened with Julian around he thought Garak fucking died.
I think something similar to this but it’s actually be reversed, where Cardassians go through brumation in the coldest days of the year.
Also fun fact when reptiles get too hot, because they can’t regulate body temperature like mammals, they open their mouths to cool down.

i do like cardassians with snouts, to me they have fairly short snouts though, as domestic animals have shorter snouts, since they have no need to hold onto live prey or sniff/sense out food.
Though I think Garak would have an even shorter snout than usual, because I said so
