Check out this awesome watermelon radish I got at the last regular farmers market of the year. They are huge on the outside, you would think they were a turnip or a rutabaga or something. I actually have seeds for these, but it always seems like I get so busy at the end of the summer that I forget to plant them for fall harvesting. My son loves radishes, so I thought we'd pick up a couple and try them out as a snack. Just roasting the rest of the beets so I can peel them. Then the skins will pretty much just slide right off. The insides of beets have such interesting patterns. It seems to me that you either love or hate beets. I love them, my husband hates them . This lovely nitetime bloom is on my apple gourd vine. I happened to go out just past dusk to grab some stuff and was stunned by the beauty of these flowers. They seem to only open up all the way at dark, which is not surprising, considering they are white flowers. They must be pollinated by moths or other nighttime insects.
