The Love Child's "Sad Songs Make Me Happy."

Opening Friday, March 25th, 2022 at Medium Exchange Gallery in New York City is artist The Love Child’s new solo show “Sad Songs Make Me Happy" curated by Seth Mathurin.

Jay Gittens, better known to the art world as The Love Child, is a self taught painter who launched into the scene selling his work on the busy streets of Soho. After immigrating to New York from his birthplace of Grenada, The Love Child found his voice in the colorful and vivid paintings that would go on to become his charismatic style. Inspired by his youth living in an island country, he brings the rich imagery and colors he was surrounded with growing up to his artwork. His exuberant style can be described as expressive, whimsical and playful. The Love Child makes use of warm vivid colors in his paintings which he believes affect the positive and pleasurable senses of his audience. Not wanting to be constrained by a singular mode, his work passes between narrative and more abstract imagery in a harmonious way. Both hold the presence and power of a singular artist with a unique sense of individuality.

🤯 Julio Lafuente was a Spanish architect who worked mainly in Italy. This is a summer cabin he built with structural engineer Gaetano Rebecchini on Capocotta beach near Rome in 1965. We have never seen anything like it. What a playful to stack bunkers! Thanks to @rural_office for tipping us off.

Add Fuel.

I'm almost bothered by the fact that I wasn't aware of Add Fuel's work until a few weeks ago because it's so damn good.

Add Fuel is Portuguese artist Diogo Machado who, through his work, creates balance and harmony from symmetrical repetitions, a build-up of layers and techniques of visual illusion such as trompe-l'œil. His multi-layered patterned compositions produce a poetic rhythm that plays with the viewer's perception and the (multiple) possibilities of interpretation.

Exploring a wide range of both manual and digital techniques in the fields of drawing, painting, ceramics and printing, his practice expresses a sophisticated dialogue between the old and the new, between heritage and modernity.
