it has been so stressful! between the big family of five having mange, two of the 'pregnant' moms not being pregnant (but were spayed), & robin (tiniest gal found in a parking lot) is bound to pop any day now... we've been all over the place.
we are so exhausted and tired just as we're sure just about every rescue and shelter worker is these days. hanging in there & still working on our usual stuff, new merch, commissions, vlogs, etc. but thank you for the patience & support!

Little ghirahim redesign thing! I had a few things going on in my mind with this one, namely: having him resemble the sword more, having him resemble Fi more, and having there be more continuity between his various forms
There are still some inconsistencies I'd like to fix (his skin changes color suddenly in his transitional form... I'd like to give him his opera gloves cracking look back), but for now I'm just gonna leave it as-is and maybe post fixes later.

I was thinking a lot about alternate gameplay for his fights during this
My idea was that instead of having a health bar that gradually wears down and triggers his next phase, he would have little gems ("conduits", I don't have a better name for them) that act as a way for him to channel his magic. He starts by using them to attack, such as the ones at his wrist allowing him to catch Link's sword in a magic grip. Link has to engage in each attack so that he can destroy the conduit. Once all the conduits are destroyed, Ghirahim's core becomes exposed and he loses magic access, forcing him to engage in a traditional swordfight in which Link has to destroy/hit/fracture his core.
As his core becomes more exposed throughout the game, he engages more with his sword/spirit abilities, unlocking new conduits and therefore more abilities and durability. His attacks also become stronger.
I have more notes and have been doodling animation keyframes for all of the conduit attacks and counterattacks, but those are for another time. Right now I just want to get this posted lol

Design commentary ^^^ in the form of annotations lol. I also did some minor sword redesings, with the main changes being to form #3. Basically, the canon transition from the goddess hilt to the winged hilt is super abrupt to me, so I tried to make it a little more gradual and to let the wings peek through prematurely
The breakdown of where her "conduits" are (further explanation as to what they are can be found in the ghirahim redesign post). They're concentrated around her legs because I place the conduits based off of their attack patterns, and Fi's are very kick-heavy. I don't have her doing any actual gameplay fighting in the rewrite, but I imagine that the cutscene in canon where Link blocks Ghirahim at the first Gate of Time will be replaced with one where Fi fights him off to give Link some time to talk to Zelda. (Also because the part where Zelda throws the harp across the chasm is really weird and I want it to be a proper handoff lol)
In the rewrite, you find Fi sealed underneath the Goddess Statue in a stasis crystal, with the Goddess Sword in front. When you draw the sword, the crystal shatters and Fi gives her introduction. (She has been summoning you via chimes, not apparitions, in my version). Because the original hero's sword (ghirahim) defected, Hylia had to create a new sword to seal him away with. Fi, who was a sheikah when human, volunteered to undergo the forging process. However, the forges with the three flames was destroyed before the process could be completed, so Hylia sent her in a stasis crystal up to skyloft with instructions on how to guide the hero through completing the sword. rough goron design for my zelda comic, struggled with it for a while bc i didnt want to make their build too similar to demise, tho thematically it fits, ended up going for a more turtle-armadillo kind of approach and a tail just feels right for them and their habit of curling into a ball
since they are even older than the ones from skysw i figured it would still be plausible if they evolved into how they later looked from this
the mogma will need a slight redesign only and parakwa will mostly stay the same as in canon bc i think their goofy look just kinda fits xD
