ROUTE: Revelations
Coming from the isolated mountains of Nohr, where the wolfskin tribe reside, Velouria is the future leader of her people. She's come and gone from the academy before, returning each time older and wiser (and taller). This time, she hopes to impart some of the fighting skills she's been able to hone training with her father and the rest of her tribe on the students of the academy. (And find some nice treasures along the way too!)
ABOUT | INTERVIEW | Please kindly do not use small text! (post)
Many of those he has felled began with words—hostility, fear, blissful unawareness; others, with weapons drawn, already in the midst of the battlefield; perhaps an ambush.
Though his many years as a soldier (and then a general) had given Valter plenty of experience, he did not expect his partner for this mission to begin by sniffing him.
“ Thank you for your marvelous opinion, ” the knight deadpans. “ Might I instead take on the stench of roses or lilies? ”
It wasn’t a heartfelt suggestion—in truth, he couldn’t care less. Whatever he smelled like, he was certain she could adjust; after all, she seemed to possess quite the incredible nose.
Perhaps it was an unreasonable conjecture; but it was her inclination towards smells—her ears and tail. Fódlan had already displayed to him various new breeds of monster; it was not too far a stretch to find a new breed of sentient creature as well. Human-like.
So it actually didn’t bother him much to be told that he ‘smelled’—after all, to one with a sensitive nose, everything would be exacerbated. (Even the faintest scents could be traced.) With the proper training, that could even be an asset on this mission:
(Which is to say: she reminded him, in a way, of a bloodhound, and he intended to use her as such.)
The townsfolk were well behind them now, leaving only the ghosts of their noises and scents behind them. The darkest operations of the human race always took place in the darkest corners—moonlit shadows, deep, forbidden libraries, the crypt of an ancient evil. Perhaps an alleyway wasn’t so on the nose of intent, but it was suitable for both everyday slights and coordinated crimes. (Crimes such as weapon-smuggling.)
Surely, she knew the scent of steel?
“ Yes, I would agree, ” the knight inclines, following the other’s snout. He’d had his own reasons for deducing this as their best next course of action (and he was going to say such regardless of her own decision), but it was always most pleasant to be on the same page in interactions. (Well, save for when the aim of the exchange was deception—alas.) “ Depending on how complex these back ways end up being, we could find them easily or with a bit more effort. ”
“ Keep your eyes open for secret passageways as well, ” he notes, his eyes looking upon the flanking buildings with that very intention. “ Buildings that seem smaller inside than out as well. They can be hidden anywhere you may not think to otherwise check. ”
"Yeah. Flowers would be a lot nicer." She liked flowers, she liked the smell of flowers. Her mother smelled like flowers, and so did Corrin. Of course she would prefer that kind of scent of that of a soldier's. Not that she has any sort of problem with blood, she was a wolfskin after all. But when one had such a sensitive nose and said soldier didn't seem to wash himself ever... well, maybe it could be a problem.
Not to mention it would cloud any of her tracking abilities if he was too close to her. So she stays a good distance ahead, sniffing the air as she went along.
"Hmph... It doesn't matter where they're hidden. If I'm able to sniff them out, then I'll be able to find them no matter what..."
"Kinu." Velouria approaches her friend, face stilled as she tried to hide how excited she was to see the kitsune girl again. (Her tail gives it all away though, wagging wildly against her control.)
"Kinuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, you're not allowed to leave me ever again."
"'Louriaaaaaaaaaaa, I'm sorry, I won't leave again, I promissseeeeeee!!!!" Kinu's whine was drawn out and matched Velouria's. She could only hold herself back for three seconds (three whole seconds! record!) before she tackle hugged her friend.
Velouria catches the kitsune as she lunges at her, spinning her friend around in a rather dramatic hug. If she couldn't have her daddy around, then Kinu was the second best thing. Kinu was her bestest friend in the whole wide world after all!
"... Good." She sniffs carefully at her friend, making sure to take in as much of her scent as she could. Kinu always smelled like the outside, and it was such a nice smell.
"... Have you come up with any new fun games while you've been here at the academy? Playing is fine as long as its with you..."
“Excuse me, Professor Velouria? My name is Lilian, and I am here to deliver the gift from your winter's envoy. Season's blessings to you.” With a smile, she holds out the aforementioned gift. It's wrapped a bit shoddily, obviously more for the sake of the item not breaking than any kind of appearances. Once one rips away the layers of multicolored tissue paper, there's a little rabbit skull, dotted with sequins glued on in rows along the eyeholes and other lines; obviously a valiant attempt to combine the requested dead and sparkly. It's... Kind of charming? To the average person??? Well, what's important is that Velouria likes it!
Velouria eagerly rips open the gift that had been delivered to her as soon as she returns to her room. She makes sure to carefully keep some of the pretty tissue paper intact, placing it in the pile of the rest of her treasures. (If anyone else saw the state that her room was in right now, they would certainly be appalled. But to her, her precious little treasure pile was everything that she could ever want to make a room feel like a home.)
She giggles happily at the bedazzled skull, placing it in a special spot atop her dresser, along with the rest of her most important treasures. She doesn't care too much about the other part of this game, about finding out who gave the gift. She had never been in it for that anyway. It was the effort she appreciated, not the gift giver themselves.
They'd not thought twice about taking up the task when asked. Having to take up work so young, just to stay alive...well, Yuri would know a thing or two about that. But there had been no guiding hand for him, no trusted adult to ensure he would come to no harm. Only those who saw fit to use him as they pleased.
There's nothing they can change about their own past— and nothing they would change about it either. But the least they can do is spare half an hour in their day to walk a few kids back home. “You could stand to be a bit more convincing about it,” they remark dryly to their companion as one of the children scuttles away from her to duck behind them.
“I don't want to get bitten!” the kid wails, fists bunching the fabric of their uniform.
“No one's going to bite anyone.” Their gaze flicks toward Velouria, a faint mix of amusement and bemusement. “At this point, I can't tell if you're trying to scare them on purpose or not. But—” Yuri twists in place to tap the kid hiding behind them on the nose. “—no pulling on tails either. Be nice and I'll sneak you some candy before you get home, yeah?”
They light up like a star. “Really?”
Yuri can't help the smile that twitches at the corner of their lips. “Of course. I'd never lie about something as important as candy.”
"Well, only bad children get bitten anyway!" Velouria declares, winding her tail around her leg to make sure none of the other children see fit to grab at it. She vaguely remembers crying in her own childhood when her beloved daddy threatened to bite her if she didn't behave, before she had understood properly that violence as a wolfskin was not always a bad thing. Nipping and biting at each other affectionately was something that she had finally grown used to in the past few years she had spent properly on Mount Garou, but of course, her words now were a threat, certainly not affection.
These children don't seem too bad though. Just overeager and energtic. They got to go home and see their parents everday, at the end of their work. (She feels her heart burn a little jealously at that, because sometimes a year or two would pass without her getting to see her daddy. And she loved her daddy so much!!! How could he bear to leave her all alone like that?)
She sniffs the air carefully, making sure that there doesn't seem to be any danger ahead. She tugs up her hood further over her head, the bright red of her cape being a beacon to the children if they were to wander off and get lost.
"There doesn't seem to be anything ahead for now, but we should all be careful. Little children should remember that the woods are dangerous, especially as it gets late. Keep close to the birdie and me."
Yarne jumped back when he smelled wolf - wolves weren't exactly rare when he and the other Shepherds were on the run from Grima, and his taguel nature had definitely attracted some of them to the camp - some days, the deaths of those taken by scavengers and ambush predators felt entirely his fault... but there was no wolf today... just a woman with grey tail and ears... ok, maybe wolf?
"Uhm... I don't think I heard of any... wolf people either? Mother never mentioned any, but I think Professor Kamui said something about..." That's when he saw it - the large, glimmering amber tear shape on her uniform. It made sense, and... oh gods, he was with a predatory beastshifter...
"Gah! D-don-d-don't even think of eating me, though!" Yarne threw up his arms in a defensive stance, reaching into his bags for his pair of training gauntlets - he didn't bring his Killer Knuckles or iron ones today, he didn't think he'd really need them. "I-I may not be the best at fighting... but I'm not going extinct today! The last taguel isn't getting eaten on a continent he's not even from!" That ought to... at least be a little work in getting her fangs off of his hide...
Velouria feels her tail start wagging wildly at the mention of Kamui, perking up a little, though it quickly droops again to think that he had made friends with this weird little bunny. Weren't she and her daddy enough of transforming friends?
"Corrin said what...?" She bites at the words, ears twitching wildly as she remained alert. Not like Kamui would ever say a bad word about anybody, at least she would hope that he didn't. The Kamui she knew loved everybody, and would always give her head pats whenever he passed by her. She loved Kamui, Kamui was nice. And he smelled nice too. (Not as nice as her daddy, but he smelled like a pretty rose, and she liked that.)
"Eat you? I mean... maybe..." She had no qualms with hunting and eating anyone, so long as she got to enjoy the chase. She had spent the past few years on Mount Garou, with her fellow wolfskin, properly intergrating herself into the culture she had missed out on as a child growing up in her deeprealm. (She'd had her daddy to teach her some things, but he hadn't come nearly often enough for her liking, so there had been only so much she could end up learning from him.)

LOST ITEMS
A COLLECTION OF HAIRBALLS. It seems to simply be a collection of hacked up hairballs. You can’t imagine why someone would want such a thing. But there were some pretty weird people here at the academy, so it belonged to someone. It probably belongs to someone with a penchant for collecting strange things.
Location found: Fishing Pond
AMBER (?). A glowing amber stone with a strange paw mark in its centre. You aren’t exactly sure what it is, but it seems like it would be pretty important to its owner. It probably belongs to a non-human resident of the academy.
Location found: Dining Hall Balcony
RED CLOAK. A red cloak with a hood and admirable white lace stitching. It stinks a little though. You can’t help but to be reminded of the story of Little Red Riding Hood. It probably belongs to someone who usually always wears a cloak.
Location found: 1st Floor Dormitories.

THE ADVICE BOX
"I MISS MY DADDY SO SO SOSOSOSOSOSOSOSO MUCH. ANY TIPS FOR COPING WITH HOMESICKNESS?"
> Go home, I guess?
> Your… Daddy?
> Send him lots of gifts if you miss him that much. I’m sure he’ll love that. (Correct Answer)
"Welcome back!" the pink-haired girl waved her hands at the cute puppy-alike girl, a radiant smile as she greeted her with open arms, "I'm so glad you're back with us!" she cirped, a unsual loud voice for her, but that happened whenever she was extremely content about something or someone.
"How have you been? Have you visited your homeland?" she was too curious maybe, but she wanted to know even more now that she was back.
"Miss Sakura..." Velouria leans down, nuzzling her cheek against the top of Hoshidan princess' head. She always smells like cherry blossoms, and Velouria has come to love the scent over the years. (Especially when it came to her Hoshidan friends.)
"I did! And I spent a lot of time with Daddy too!" Her tail wags happily as she thinks about how much time she got to spend with her beloved father, before drooping in disappointment that she wouldn't get to see him everyday anymore.
"... I'm glad to be back though. I missed everyone here, even if Daddy isn't here..."
As lords hoard more supplies to stockpile for future conflicts and increase patrols on their borders, families are left with less in their finances so that their governing bodies can fund these services. Finding it difficult to make ends meet, children are now taking on jobs younger and younger to support their households. Some parents have requested strong, capable bodyguards to escort their children and make sure they get home safely from work as the adults no longer have the time to.
Humans and their obsession with money are so weird, Velouria thinks to herself, tail thumping against the forehead of the child currently clinging to her leg. Her daddy would have never thought of making her work! (Why didn't they just hunt for the food they needed anyway? There were plenty of small prey animals in the forests around here if they were fast enough to catch them. No need to send your children out to... wait where were they going anyway?)
She kicks at the dirt with the toe of her boot, glancing at the person who had taken on this escort mission with her. (She had only agreed in the first place because one of the monks back at the monastery had promised her something shiny if she was able to bring the children home safely.)
A yelp sounds out through the forest, her poor tail yanked on by the same child who had been clinging so close to her moments ago. She must have growled, because he had run off to hide behind her companion. Fine! She didn't like clingy people anyway!
"I'm not going to bite you," She says, dark gaze boring into the poor kid, "Probably." She tacks on, just in case she ended up being a liar later. People had been known to go missing from Mount Garou before. She certainly wouldn't be the first to do such an act.
"I guess I won't. For now. But me and the little birdie," She gestures at her companion - they would definitely be a bird if they were some type of animal, she guesses, "are gonna make sure no more naughty children are tugging on people's tails. Only good children get to go all the way home!"
No matter where you go, everyone seems convinced that these are unsafe times and everyone wants a little extra security— some want it directly in their hands even. It’s no shock then that there are rumors of an arms dealer smuggling weapons through the port. If left unchecked, something could happen between civilians or worse, all these weapons could be used to outfit a nearby noble’s independent army, giving an opportunity for a more widespread assault. Finding out where these weapons are coming from and who they’re going to might be in the continent’s best interest then. [Grants Reason +1]
Velouria decides that she doesn't like this man from the very instant she gets a good whiff of him. She wrinkles up her nose, ears tilting downwards, her tail curling around her leg as she stared (only slightly) down at him.
"You stink." She states plainly. And that is rather bad in this situation. Because she is supposed to be using her nose to sniff out where the arms dealer was hiding, along with all of their illegally obtained weapons. It was like there was years of blood and sweat caked onto him, and she could smell it all wafting off.
(Curse her talented nose. Her daddy had truly given her so many gifts with her life though, so maybe it wasn't a curse if it was from him.)
She scowls, tail hitting the back of her leg with a resounding twhap. The soles of her boots click against the stone alleyway, tugging her hood close to her so she could wash out that man's scent with her daddy's (saddeningly, not much of it remained after her journey here and how little she had been able to cling to him lately) before sniffing at the air lightly. She points down the alleyway, making sure the man was following her as she started her hunt.
Velouria sniffs the air softly, as she wanders through the academy, refamiliarizing herself with its walls and corridors. She would prefer to be outside as much as possible, but they made her teach in the classroom - though they said it was only for now, at least until she properly got her footing.
Whatever. She can still go on her treasure hunting walks after class. But... she didn't even have her daddy here to show all her fancy new treasures to. She growls softly under her breath, grumbling to herself. She would have had to leave clinging to his side constantly soon enough anyway. This was just.... it was just a headstart.
She stops suddenly, having caught a scent in the breeze that makes her tail stand straight up as she eagerly tries to find the source of it. It smelled like a rabbit, she always did love hunting rabbits. She follows the source of the smell, a skip in her step as she did so. On Mount Garou, she was able to hunt to her heart's content, but at the academy she had to be forced to reign it in just a little. ("Animal carcasses all around your room is disturbing to others, especially with the scent." They told her. But they couldn't just take her treasures away like that! She wouldn't let them! Needless to say, certain members of the staff may or may not have been more than a little scared to even think of trying to get near her room now.)
The scent leads her to a boy. Human enough looking, had it not been for the bunny ears. Bunny... person...? Did that mean that she wouldn't be able to hunt him then. She walks up behind him, whacking him with her tail to try and get his attention, "Daddy never told me about any bunny people. What the hell are you?" Velouria isn't allowed to eat him... right?
