Eisenstein’s 1925 Battleship Potemkin premiers in Portugal, on the 2nd of May of 1974, a week after the Carnation Revolution overthrew the right-wing dictatorship. Over the next two years, over 1000 films, many of them banned for decades, were finally shown in cinemas.

As Armas e o Povo (dir. Colectivo de Trabalhadores da Actividade Cinematográfica, 1975) 

Shot in colour from the 25th of April through the 1st of May of 1974, by a group of directors that included the brazilian filmmaker in exile Glauber Rocha. The documentary chronicles in real time the unmitigated joy and vibrancy of the immediate aftermath of the Carnation Revolution, and is one of the most valuable first hand documents of that historical moment.
