THE BATMAN (2022)
itswxnterwxlf:
having spent a considerable time in cyrogenic freezer and even longer under mind control, there were few scenarios that actually concerned bucky. and being stuck in some alternate reality with a motley crew of heros and villians wasnβt one of them. regardless, he wondered if an escape plan was being formulated and what his role would be. if there was fighting, heβd obviously have a role. at the realization that he wasnβt alone, bucky chuckled.Β β sorry i didnβt see yaβ there, too caught up in my thoughts. β he offered.Β
selina hadnβt thought much of the otherβs presence before heβs offering her an apology. viridescent hues move over him, taking in the unfamiliar features before a smirk of her own is shaping to her lips.Β βitβs alright,β the feline crosses her steps to round him a bit, head cocked to one side out of sheer curiosity.Β βwe all have our moments. thinking about anything exciting?βΒ

Since the strange storm had hit the city, the nights tended to be quieter, most of the action involving looters or other vigilantes. That night though, Batman was alerted of suspicious activity by the batwingβs scanner, recognizing the individuals on the hologram screen of his gauntlet. He summoned the plane and followed them to the docks, the batwing lowering just enough to allow the Bat to glide onto the rooftops a few blocks away, using the grapple gun for the rest of the journey.Β Heβd been keeping surveillance of all the known criminals thatβd been thrown into Fake York since their arrival two months prior, a ring of drugs and weapons traffickers wasting no time to pick up right where they left off back home, the chaos the storm had caused giving them enough time to operate without interruptions. With their history of violence, it was only a matter of time before their actions escalated, the cityβs authorities far too preoccupied with recent events to organize a team and make a move.
It wasnβt his city, it wasnβt even his world, and he definitely had bigger things to take care of. Still, that didnβt mean heβd put his usual work on pause, that he would ignore any threats, that the fact he didnβt know this new world meant he shouldnβt care about protecting it. Innocent people, people he cared about, strangers who were the protectors of their own dimensionβthey were all stuck there without any idea of how long itβd take to find their way back, the least they could do was maintain the order.
Batman used the cargo containers to move around unnoticed, finding a large crowd of men gathered in the center of the shipping yard, what appeared to be an cash deal about to take place. An argument broke out however, something about the weapons not being in the conditioned they were promised, shots soon fired after the buyers attempted to take their money back. The vigilante threw electrical traps at the menβs guns, setting them off and disarming a handful, a smoke pallet used next to disorient the criminals. The Dark Knight dropped to the ground then, taking the men out one by one, using his batclaw and his batarangs to incapacitate the rest. It was easy, far too easy, the reason becoming obvious as the smoke clearedβhe wasnβt fighting alone.
Crisis isnβt a word Selina would use to describe what sheβd been going through ever since forming a home in the pseudo city; it was more of a loss. Not only loss of someone who occupied a pretty large place in her life, but loss of her bearings. Things with she and Bruce had been radio silent and Selina hadnβt realized how the absence of sound could make everything youβve been trying to avoid that much louder. She had a habit of being avoidant, finding it leagues easier to skim over things that bothered her rather than face them head on now she was paying for it. Each and every time Bruce would insist that Selina was capable of good, that she had the capacity to change, she found it rather hard to believe. From a young age she felt unwanted, having to fend for herself through life without someone to build her up. No, she did all of that on her own. Has it hardened her in the process? Possibly, but she wouldnβt change it for the world. Nearly everything she had was a product of all that sheβs conquered and for a long time, she equated change with throwing away who she became. But it hadnβt hit her until sheβs spending yet another night alone, deep viridescent hues taking in the sight of the city from her perch, that to change isnβt to throw away who you are and start anew; instead adding onto oneβs already present foundation and making a few... revisions.Β
And while the jobs she took provided her with what she needed, she wasnβt happy. So it dawned on her that for once... perhaps she should go after the one thing that ignited the fire that sheβd always harbored. Sheβs not sure if itβs too soon, or if the Dark Knight would react well to her little stunt but Selinaβs nothing if not confident enough to roll those dice. So instead of another night spent overlooking the city, the leather clad cat finds herself seeking the other out, making leaps and bounds between rooftops before sheβs finding herself atop one of the large shipping containers, practically front row to some sort of deal.Β
He materializes the second things go south and it leaves Selina wondering if these Fake York thugs knew what a world of hurt they were in under Batmanβs watch. She wastes no time springing into action, bull whip pulled from the spot on her hip to rip the weapons from the wrong hands. Even in the cloud of smoke Selinaβs movements are swift and agile, kicking the legs out from under them, hoping they have enough common sense to know they should stay down. It ends almost as fast as it began and the Cat swears she can hear her heartbeat in her ears as the smoke finally clears and his eyes are on her. Though itβs not like her to let him see her sweat, so sheβs lifting a gloved hand to offer a bit of a wave.Β βHi, Bat.β She purrs, lips upturned in an amused smirk.Β βMiss me?βΒ
midnight.

harrietβs been trying very hard not to roll her eyes at the whole situation. being trapped in another universe - with characters sheβs read about in comic books - isnβt something you can write home about. if she could reach home, that is, which she canβt. she curses to herself, louder than sheβd realised, then looks up quickly, feeling the presence of someone there.Β βthat wasnβt at you- fuck, sorry. iβm in a bad mood. i apologise.β
Selina didnβt normally make it a habit of people watching but when the furrowed brow of the other seemed to signify something boiling beneath the otherβs skin, she couldnβt look away. And then the other is addressing her, and all the woman can offer in return is a slight shake of her head.Β βNo worries, Iβm no stranger to a sour mood although Iβd recommend finding better ways to deal with it. For all you know my day couldβve been just as bad, and that wouldβve been the one thing to set me off.β She allows her words to linger for a moment as she sips from the hot coffee in hand.Β

She never wanted to leave this new world. Half the population didnβt know who she wasβ what she was capable of. It was her own little hunting ground. So it was no wonder that she found herself in a quaint little bar. Red locks bouncing with every step she took. She found her way to the bar, each movement of her body secretingΒ pheromones.Β βWhatβs a girl gotta do to get a drink?β
Selina could identify the head of bright red hair anywhere, even in the city dubbing itself Fake York. Her own fingers curl against the drink set before her, manicured nails tracing circular motions around the rim of it. She can only imagine the field day her Siren counterparts mustβve been having; going from a world where youβre a household name to one where youβd be lucky to receive a smile in return from a stranger. Her neck cocks to one side playfully before sheβs shooting a glance toward the bartender.Β βA drink for my friend, please.β Selina motions toward the vacant barstool beside her own.Β βWhatβs your poison, Pam?βΒ
Youβre a part of the night, just like me. Weβre not afraid of the dark. We come alive in it.
