Hello! My name is GaudyBlue! I'm an 19 year old musician from Ireland!

I am currently a student in a hnd of music and a bassist, singer, and lyricist in a band.

I plan on posting everything music such as: song analysis, theory stuff, and music I like and want to uplift.

Every friday I'm gonna post a song I think you should check out! If by chance you are a small and or Irish artist, pleeeeease reach out, I love discovering new Irish and small artists!

A little about me, I'm queer and trans, I use he/him pronouns. I'm autistic and have adhd and depression. I am mainly a lyricist and singer, but ive been learning bass for a good while noe and also played piano for over a decade (though im not veey good), im hoping to also learn drums and guitar. Also little fun fact, my special interests are music and fiction podcasts! My favourites the magnus archives, but I love so many. I also love anime, my favourites probably gachiakata or bungo stray dogs.

I love all music, but my favourite genres are prolly midwest emo, metal, riot grrrl, and folk- but I really do love all music. My favourite bands are The Cranberries, franz ferdinand, set it off, panic at the disco, and The front bottoms. My favourite solo artists are Cavetown, Mitski, and Marina. My favourite musicals are Hamilton, the heathers, beetlejuice (3 basics ik), and crazy ex girlfriend.

When writing lyrics I love to start with a poem as well as using loads of references to other poems, paintings, literature, and other important things in history (and especially Irish history).

Atm I don't have any music posted, I might link my band here at some point in the future- but yall have to be chill cus I am NOT out to them.

HELLO WEEK 8 :D

This weeks musician is lisa murray, she makes soft indie music with inspiration from folk/trad irish and pop, she writes a lot in irish.

She grew up in a gaeltacht region (a part of ireland which only speaks irish) in meath (my home county). She then went to college in trinity and then berklee, earning a degree in music and modern irish and then a masters in music as well as berklees 'Outstanding Woman Scholarship'. She started swlf producing her music during the pandemica and has gone on to play numerous stages including electric picnic alongside kneecap. Shes also been played all over the radio she hit 3 millon radio impacts, top 200 shazams and top 10 on the radio breaker charts. Despite hitting 5 millon views and 40k followers on tiktok and being referred to as the gaeilgeoir swift, she only has 2000 listeners on spotify.

This is her newest song called 'céim ar chéim' which translates to 'step by step'

And this is my favourite by her, 'uaigneach' means 'lonely' in a more intensive way than the english word can describe- from what im told. Its a beautiful soft and sweet song.

I think to call lisa the gaeilgeoir swift is an insult because it implies taylor swift holds even half lisas talent, culture, importance, or beauty. To me lisa is the change we need to see in the use of irish by my generation- gollowing those like kneecap and cmat. I hope this year lisa finds the explosive sucess thats been circling the irish music scene recently.

Week 7 of weekly music, this week I'd like to give a shout to 'Speakers'!

Speakers have 9 singles and an ep out! They have 67 followers on spotify and have been making music on there since 2021.

I found them due to their top song 'perceive', for me its a perfect amalgamation of 3 of my favourite things (music, irish music, and the magnus archives (iykyk)

Ironically there isnt much info on them to perceive but no need to be sad cus I did promise a bonus due to my break in posting so heres 2 female acts that ive wanted to post but feel are too big to dedicate a week to :)

Cmat is a eurocountry female singer from my home town Dunboyne!! She makes fun national and international bangers. She is unapologetically her gaudy self (in the best way possible obviously)

• Florence Road

Florence Road or 'flo ro' are an all girl band from Dublin who blew up quite recently.

SORRY FOR THE LATE WEEKLY POST D: also I'm so sorry there was no post last week, I literally have it in my drafts I just put it there to do a lil research then updated it and when I saved that update I thought I posted it but I saved it back ti drafts :( My aunt has been over so I've been distracted, this will be week 6 and I'll post week 7 as well as a bonus next week :)

Week 6 of weekly Irish music is Toshín (like roisin but toe) she is a Nigerian-Irish musician with a punky soul sound! She makes impacktful theatrical songs driven by emotions and passion. Shes played at electric picnic and has been publishing music since 2018 with 13 singls and eps.

I found her on tiktok with the song below, at first I thought to myself "god she kinda sound Irish" and then I realised she is XD

I can see her being the next iconic female Irish artist, though right now shes sitting at 350 listeners

My gran and grandad grew up in limerick AND MY GRANNYS FRIENDS WITH I THINK THE HOGANS MAM so fucking cool ToT.

Zombies is an anti war song, not a pro ira song. O'Riordan wrote it while on tour in england after a child lost their life to a bomb left in a bin. I find it interesting how similar it is to 'child of our time' by evann boland with how they blame themselves and all of society (i also just love boland and wanted to mention her cus my concertas worn off)

Dolores O'Riordan struggled with bipolar and addiction her whole lufe as well as struggling with being in the public eye so young and abuse she experienced as a child from her father.

I love the cranberries :( I love Dolores O'Riordan :( I wish she had had an easier life :(

Week 5 of weekly music! As well as a little note at the end!!

This week is 'The Hex'! An all girl punk rock group from Dublin!!! Theyve been making music for a while- their first gig being in 2022 and their Spotify launching in 2023.

They have aroun 300 listeners and 2 amazing songs out!!

I've decided to make this weekly Irish music- dont worry, if you're not irish I will still be posting about non Irish acts! I just have such a long list of Irish acts I wanna up lift as an Irish musician myself so thia felt to be the nest course of action!

If you in a band/have a recommendation for Irish or non Irish acts I am always ALWAYS open to hearing it!! I'm thinking of starting another weekly post where I post a non Irish act (big or small) that I've been into, but I want to see if I can keep up with these posts for now.

Also is doing this on tumblr the best format? Should I do something else like a website or something if I want to be taken more seriously? Tumblr felt like the best choice as its a blog site, informal enough to allow this to be a passion for sharing not informing, and hosts a lot of alt people. But I've not used tumblr long so I'm not sure its the right place to find my audience? I'm not dping this blog for fame- pretty crpa idea if I was- but if seems pointless to try promote Irish music if no ones listening here. Is it just a case that I need to promote more, or is this not the spot?

Any bloggers or people with advice would be appreciated :)

Lastly, after next weeks post I think I'll be changing my blogs name to 'BlueBlured' as I want the blogs name to be the same as my solo name and 'GaudyBlue' didn't feel like a good name, tho I am still workshopping the name and may change my mind :)

Week 4 of friday music!! This week is another Irish band called 'Von Loop'!!

Von Loop are from County Down, they make heavy Irish punk music with political and comedic themes. They're a group of friends who would jam just for fun, but as of 2024 have started posting it- now sitting at nearly 200 listeners on spotify! I found them as they were the openers for 'Cheap Dirty Horse' and 'Pigeon Pit' last week :) they're live show was amazing and that night they dropped their most recent single/ep 'Grand Social'!

Their music sounds like kneecap but with more anger and whimsy: using spat rap vocals with class lyrics, metal screams, and a great use of theory to shake things up in the structure.

Week 3 of weekly music!!

Ik the last 3 weeks have all been Irish music but I just found this band and I'm so surprised I havent before!

This week is kind of a 2 for 1, the first being SPRINTS an Irish band with 200k listeners, they are self proclaimed "noise from Dublin" and have been posting since 2020 with 2 albums and 9 singles/eps.

And the reason this is a 2 for 1 is cus theres another band who really remind me of them!

And this is Shark School, the all girl band from galway- though they have less listeners (14k) you may have heard their song 'Choose life' as it was in 'House of Guinness' series.

Right now both bands are touring and you can see SPRINTS next august :)

Also should I just turn this into weekly irish music? I've been thinking about it as while Ik small global bands, Ik waaay more Irish and I'd obviously want to shout out music from my home more, idk would ye be interested? Cus I'd still post non Irish music just not for friday mosts
