I'm learning
Albeit slowly
That attachment is not
The same thing as love
And learning this
Is what tells me
That I don't think I've ever been in love before
So when my heart hurts
And feels heavy
As I detangle my life from yours
I can take the time
To ease my mind
Knowing that the pain my heart
Is screaming out
Is not from the losing you
It's from the pain in realizing
I lost myself for you.
It's my heart finally using the voice
That was once silenced by your presence.
To scream out and cry
"I am worthy dammit
I am deserving"
As many times as I might need
To outnumber the times
You made me forget it.
So,
Dear little me
I'm so sorry I stopped seeing you
Stopped hearing you
Stopped loving you.
I'm learning again how much it hurts
To neglect you.
Im so sorry little me,
For letting go of your hand,
When you're the only one who has never once
Abandoned my side.
Little me,
Please hear me when I say
That wasn't love
And that's not what love feels like.
And while I know we don't know what it really feels like
What I do know is this:
A real love protects,
Is thoughtful and kind,
And will only ever bring me closer to you
And will effortlessly keep us in mind.
