When Sony stopped manufacturing replacement parts for its Aibo pet robot, owners scrambled to save the robot-dogs that had become part of their families.

The meaning of (the funeral in the opening scene) comes from our realization that everything is connected. The inanimate and the animate are not separated in this world.
