Every 19th century novel ever:
*minor inconvenience happens*
Character: *falls ill for some reason and almost fucking dies*
She was as easy to find in that crowd as a rose among nettles. Everything was made bright by her. She was the smile that shed light on all around her.
Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina (via theclassicsreader)
literature posters, featuring anna karenina
“There was no solution, but that universal solution which life gives to all questions, even the most complex and insoluble. That answer is: one must live in the needs of the day – that is, forget oneself. To forget himself in sleep was impossible now, at least till nighttime; he could not go back now to the music sung by the decanter-women; so he must forget himself in the dream of daily life.”
When I was 21 I read “Anna Karenina.” I thought Anna and Vronsky were soul mates. They were deeply in love and therefore had to be together. I found Karenin cruel and oppressive for keeping his wife from her destiny. Levin and Kitty and the peasants bored me. I read those parts quickly. Last year I turned 49, and I read the book again. This time, I loved Levin and Kitty. I loved the fact that after she declined his proposal he waited for a long time to mend his hurt feelings and then asked her again. I loved that she had grown up in the interim and now felt grateful for a second chance. Anna and Vronsky bored me. I thought Anna was selfish and shrill. My heart went out to poor Karenin, who tried to be decent. What has literature taught me about love? Literature (along with experience) has taught me that love means different things at different points in our lives, and that often as we get older we gravitate toward the quieter, kinder plotlines, and find them to be richer than we had originally understood them to be.
Ann Patchett, “A Sentimental Education - Writers on Love” (via zenshipper)
Tbh, I loved both the plot lines because they were so contrasting. Anna Karenina is such a realistic novel and the characters are grey, just like in real life. It's my favourite book. ♥️
Personal Opinion- the witch burning was the worst thing to ever happen on this planet.

Othello? More like Ohellno, amiright?

Things I want from a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet:
- Everyone is dressed in traditional costuming, but the script is in modern English. - “Romeo, Romeo, why the FUCK did you have to be ROMEO?” - Juliet talks like a rich white valley girl and wears a flower crown. - She keeps taking inappropriately timed selfies and posting them on instagram. - Tybalt won’t stop talking about his crossfit regime. - Romeo only listens to My Chemical Romance. - Mercutio’s Queen Mab speech is followed by Benvolio asking “Are you high right now?” (He is) - Mercutio dabs on stage. Unironically. More than once. - When the boys are all catcalling Nurse it’s super cringy. - instead of “a sail! A sail!” You get “Hey Fatass!” “Fatass? I just see a boat!” “Weigh anchor! You’re gonna break the docks, Fatass!” - Tybalt also dabs on stage, exactly twice. - The first time is awful and his friends have to correct him. - Tybalt dabs at Mercutio and Mercutio responds by doing a backflip and ending in a dab. - The Tybalt/Mercutio fight is an absolutely serious dancebattle with no weapons. - Mercutio still dies anyway. - Tybalt tries to dance battle Romeo too, but Romeo keeps taking it too seriously and not dancing back. - This is because Romeo only knows how to ballroom dance. - Paris wears a trillby and calls it a fedora. - Juliet Snapchats her own death. - Romeo doesn’t have Snapchat.
Tumblr's creativity knows no end.
Life is made up of unforgettable memories, but if I had to rate the most unforgettable of them all, I’d say it would be the moment I saw him. I didn’t know who he was or what was he doing there; all I knew that this stranger was powerful enough to captivate my gaze and slow down time. I used to think that such encounters where a mere eye-contact leaves you high and breathless were only an exaggeration in found in fiction. But, when I saw him, it felt like a lovely dream of a breezy summer night where the stars are glowing and nature is at its best mood. When I saw him, I pinched myself because it is too good to be true to fall in love with a handsome stranger.

Love is a poison responsible for all of the world's misery. But, who wouldn't want to die with such ecstasy?
