Rik Mayall Print Interviews

So hey guys, I know Rik Day (March 7th) is technically over, and I wasn’t going to post any major original content until I got his book in the mail. But if you guys haven’t checked out this website, do. It’s a collection of Rik Mayall interviews in all the British newspapers and magzs, which I would never get to see being in the United States. It’s an archive going back to 1982 and full of tons of gems, really personal stuff, funny and sad, and amazing quotes.

Anyway, here are some of my personal favorites I’ve read, linked with my favorite (multiple) lines from all of them (bit long {LONG}, so I’ve made a cut for easy reading). If you want to tell me/message me your favorites that I might not have read, or any other interviews you know of, awesome, go ahead!

1. “As long as comedy, sex and alcohol continue to stimulate me, I’ll be happy. All I’ve ever wanted to do is bring down a government and change the whole fabric of society. It’s not much to ask for, is it?”

2. “That’s why what I’m doing now is me as Rik Mayall – that’s the one card left up my sleeve. I can’t pretend to be anyone else because my face is known, but I can still pretend to be me. I need to invent a character who is as good as Rik the poet or Kevin, but that I can call me. I need a character who I can stick with for life, because there’s nowhere I can go after that.”
