Victoria ramblings from when I was trying to piece together her route, I also added other thoughts Iâve had today, but you may scroll if you donât want to listen to me be crazy for these two
(Also note, these are my thoughts and should not be what your interpretation should be, I donât want my thoughts like this to be treated as gospel, take your own meaning from the canon material, and shouldnât sway what you think, you can completely disagree and be correct. Thatâs the great part of getting your own meaning and I love seeing them)
Of course itâs way more complicated than what Iâm saying here, but Jayleneâs and Victoriaâs relationship is so interesting because even years after their breakup, they would still put the other first if it ever came down to it. Of course Victoria would fold if Jaylene called her decades later and said she wanted her back, thatâs obvious.(lips of an angel starts playing)
Jaylene, however, is a little more complex. She still loves Victoria at her core, and sheâs still mad at Victoria for making her care. Even outside of Victoriaâs route, even while in an active relationship, if something bad happened to Victoria, Jaylene would come running. Sheâd do it with full stubbornness and sarcasm to hide how she really feels but she would make sure Victoria was okay. She doesnât want to see Victoria hurt, ever, no matter what she says.
The truth is, if Victoria in her route fell to her knees crying about how much she missed Jaylene and opened up, and that part is important, about her scars, her past and why she did what she did, Jaylene would fold. There would be no route, it would last a few scenes at most.
Obviously that doesnât happen, because Victoria is scared of being vulnerable. Sheâs scared that opening up would scare Jaylene away, when that vulnerability is exactly what Jaylene wants and needs. Victoria isnât dumb, sheâs been conditioned for years to hide her true self and become a different person to protect herself, one that hides behind money and shallowness. No matter how much she tries to work on herself in the small ways, if she doesnât acknowledge that core truth, itâs doomed. Theyâre forever doomed. I honestly canât imagine them working it out in the other routes.
Thatâs why it hurts. Theyâre so close. They would fall into each otherâs arms in an instant if Victoria just spoke up, but thatâs her greatest curse, not her scars or whatever her mean girl friend group did. Even in her own route, it takes so much for her to see the bigger picture. To realize that what Jaylene wants most is her biggest fear, being fully known by the one person she loves unconditionally, and facing the tiniest possibility that Jayleneâs love isnât and that she would leave. To Victoria, that distance hurts less than that possibility ever could.
So instead, she keeps her distance. She tries to rebuild without digging into the past. She avoids talking about what happened and hopes Jaylene wonât dive deeper. She gives gifts, kind gestures, and acts like nothing happened. But the fact that Jaylene rejects those things is proof that Jaylene cares about the truth, no matter how bad it is.
