Peach Blossom Cookie has known Machiatto from the day he was baked, long before he died. They've remained close, like family almost, after the real Machiatto passed away due to Mystic Flours curse, yet the souls of his people lingered, enough for them to need a protector.

My main inspiration for Machiatto are the Inugami, hence why his true form presents dog like traits, because to a degree, his spirit took over protecting what was left of his village and it's residents who crumbled away, Peach Blossom acting as his guide in this new life and role he plays. The marks on his body are the scars left by the plague that carried over, because originally he was pure coffee, instead of what translates to "stained coffee".

He often stays at his Inn, allowing many travelers to rest and heal there thanks to the hot springs, but he tries to blend in with everyone, although his magic isn't as strong and he cannot keep his cookie form forever, so when Affogato appeared, he expected him to not stay long as well, yet Affogato lingered due to being intrigued by the air of mystery around this inn, forcing Machiatto to leave just to regain control over his form.

That's when Affogato decides to see for himself why certain areas were off limits, piecing together the truth himself.

Whatever happens next, idk, not like it isn't my AU or anything, coughs. Either way, Peach Blossom warned him several times that nothing good will come out of pursuing Affogato, knowing that Machiatto already lost his entire village whom he was the healer of in the past, and the ammount of suffering he endured afterwards as a spirit composed of the echoing cries of all of the sick cookies he tried to keep alive.
