sorry i do think it's very juicy and fun that blackwall engages in "they were just following orders it's not their fault" ass nonsense specifically because it puts more blame on HIM. like we can critique the wielding of that sort of rhetoric sure but ultimately he's not doing war crime apologia to blame terrible deeds on some boogeyman, he's doing it because he views himself as the boogeyman. it's one of those things where it's easier for him to swallow himself holding sole blame because he already hates himself and he loved his men, and it's so much harder to really look at the fact that regardless of how good he thinks his men are, they still followed a terrible order. yk. chewing on him like a polly pocket
