hi! my name is Celeste and this is my oc focused project moon sideblog. i’ll mostly be posting stuff about them like writing and rarely art, but i’ll also post general hcs about the setting and rb art of the games. you can find a big list of the freaks you see here right here! this blog is not spoiler free btw, enjoy your stay!
Hey, can y’all rb this if it’s okay to send you messages asking about your ocs, cause on god I wanna interact with y’all but I am terrified of being annoying lol
Since Limbus Company’s release we’ve gotten plenty of looks at E.G.O and what it’s like corroded and how that works, which has been pretty cool! It works differently than how we’ve been shown in Wonderlab, and I can’t say I agree with it, but overall EGO works completely differently. I thought I’d give a big infodump about my headcanons regarding EGO corrosion since many of my characters are suffering from it, and it’s nowhere near as temporary of an arrangement as it’s been shown in Limbus.
In essence, corrosion is a slow and often agonizing process typically brought upon by the wearer being “unqualified” to wear the gear. The wearer’s personal virtues aren’t strong enough to withstand the EGO, so the EGO erodes at the person until it completely overtakes them and changes them into something mostly unrecognizable. Due to the nature of humans, each case of corrosion is essentially personalized, though the symptoms are consistent. Corrosion very rarely can happen in tools through pure exposure, but this is going to focus more on gear.
EGO corrosion has a lot of factors that play into how it progresses. Things such as the wearer’s level compared to the suit’s, the wearer’s personality and emotional state, and their “compatibility” with the suit in question can all contribute to corrosion. The end result isn’t another abnormality, or a minion of the abnormality the suit came from- corrosion happens regardless of whether or not the abnormality can form a minion, and the resulting monster cannot produce enkephalin and is very much so mortal. It comes in stages and the speed at which it progresses varies on the aforementioned factors.
For instance, if you gave an aleph suit to a clerk to wear, their corrosion would be rapid and incredibly painful to undergo. If you gave a lv 3 agent some gear just one step above their level, the corrosion would be a lot slower and easier to catch. While curing EGO corrosion is in theory easy, as all you have to do is remove the suit, the wearers are usually incredibly reluctant to do so. Corrosion has a psychological effect on its wearer that makes them unwilling to remove the suit or recognize that there is something wrong, whether it be for their own gain or protection. There comes a point too where the suit fuses to the wearer, and the only way to stop it is to kill them and destroy the suit.
The beginning stages of corrosion are light and don’t manifest physically yet, the wearer simply complains of stiffness and aches in their body and displays slight behavioral changes in line with the abnormality in question.
The second stage is when the body begins to change with most physical changes like horn growth, eyes changing color, etc. happening to match the suit. The physical symptoms worsen, though the wearer will play this off as a new ego gift or overworking. The suit can be safely removed in this stage, and this is when you’d want to catch it with little risk to the wearer.
The third stage is when the suit begins to fuse and become more of a second skin. Depending on the person, additional abilities develop at this stage and are used frequently while their appearance degrades and becomes less human. The pain of corroding becomes near-unbearable, and outside of works the wearer becomes less and less social. At this point the wearer would likely be executed to cut losses.
The final stage is transformation and the point of no return. The victim is typically drawn to someplace isolated to do so but it may happen unprompted at any time. Though the victim is a “monster.” their mind remains intact throughout the whole process. The pain and shock often results in them lashing out and attacking others, at that point they need to be suppressed to prevent employee loss.
I had to mentally send myself a reaction image the other day. I ran up the stairs on all fours, said to myself “i’m such a locationpilled scampercel” and then perfectly envisioned this image
A formerly downtrodden and pessimistic employee that desperately wanted out of the corporation like many others. One day they seemingly changed their tune to a more upbeat and chipper persona, carrying out their tasks with a smile and being friendly with others. They’ve apparently forgotten overnight who their former friends were and don’t recognize some abnormalities they were assigned to, but their new attitude makes this a minor complaint in their busy department. Relaxed and somewhat aloof, Seiro gets along with most people with a lazy smile and works hard to ensure the safety of his department’s clerks. Overall, he’s become a model employee for Control.
The truth behind Seiro’s relaxed smile is that it’s nothing more than a facade. He's not from this facility...
He's from a completely different one, from a different universe altogether. As it turns out, the Mirror of Adjustment isn't quite the tool everyone believed it was.
He came to it in a moment of desperation- when WhiteNight awoke, chaos followed and the facility was doomed to collapse. Injured and desperate to at least save SOME of his colleagues from their deaths, he sought out the mirror in hopes it'd grant him temporary power. On the other side, the original Seiro was there to do routine work with it, secretly hoping it could give him the strength to endure working here. They approached the mirror, the surface rippled...
And in an instant, they were yanked through and their places were swapped. The mirror didn't actually change stats...it simply replaced the user with a different version of themself with different stats. The original Seiro was put into a disaster, while the other was spat out into relative quiet and safety. It was the perfect switch- one got to escape, and the other got a way out.
But, the satisfaction was only temporary. Seiro was thrilled at first, this facility didn't even have the abnormality that killed all his friends! But he came to find out none of his friends even recognized him, if they were here at all. The opinion of him here was different too, viewed as a lazy good-for-nothing that rarely worked as opposed to his normally hardworking disposition. He was in a completely different world, and he knew better than to act TOO differently....but the thought of being here became scary, and guilt started to weigh on his shoulders for the fate he subjected his other self to. Feeling out of place and terrified of the consequences of being found out, he keeps up appearances and avoids talking about himself whenever possible.
saw your tags about your lobcorp oc..... 👀 may I hear about them?
wow i was NOT expecting to get an ask about my ocs! hi! i honestly have...a TON of them that I'm focusing on at any given moment, but I'm willing to share who I'm thinking about right now!
Meet Sombra :) They're the ex-captain of Control who wasn't exactly well-liked due to their bad behavior and poor treatment of their subordinates, and ended up corroding as part of a plot to get rid of them. As it turned out they managed to survive it, but seeing as they were given gear from Freischutz and Burrowing Heaven they were Very Normal about it. They started to view themselves as a demon who needed to atone for their past sins, and stepped down and withdrew from view to do so.
Essentially, they live in the walls now.
They still feel a sense of duty, and act as a silent and distant protector of Control. No longer able to blink they constantly watch over the department and discreetly act on threats towards the agents and clerks. Their corrosion fuckery is mostly internal, only manifesting on the outside in their permanently half-shaded face and unblinking eyes, so their very rare appearances on camera have earned then their new name, La Sombra.
When it comes down to it, is there really a difference between the end results of E.G.O. Corrosion vs Distortion? Distortion just comes from within, while E.G.O. Corrosion is external.
Personally, I don't think the results are the same though they ARE super similar! From what we've seen of Distortion, the victim's desires are factored in to the resulting monster with varying degrees of lucidity.
E.G.O. Corrosion however, we haven't really gotten to see much of. The process is way slower from what we've seen and the changes seem to be in line with what suit you're wearing vs your own personal feelings. We've never seen what a fully corroded person is like so it's hard to say, though...
