It was about time someone showed up here. The place had been dead for hours. Just when you think you can go semi-legit, everyone stops caring who you are! The fact that the dust in his shop wasn’t technically his wouldn’t stop him from trying to make a quick buck, and neither would the fact that the shop wasn’t exactly his either.
But hell, he was feeling whimsical tonight and decided a little healthy capitalism would do him good, and now it was time to greet the first guest of the night.
“He-hey! Welcome to my humble little shop. Feel free to browse, and if you have any questions, be sure to let me know.” It was a good part for him. Old conman-turned-entrepreneur. Real easy to get into character.
Thank the gods she found a dust shop, she spent hours looking for one, well, just to get out of the rain at least, and maybe even to put some into the blade of her sword.
She wiped the specs of debris that had managed to collect onto her waist apron during the storm. “Why hello there, I’m so glad to see a friendly face after being alone for so long…” The huntress had greeted.
Browsing through the various types of dust that were just laying around the store, her onyx heels clicked against the tile flooring. She looked through the viles of the brightly colored substance, trying to find some fire or ice dust.
He watched closely as she moved about the shop floor. Honestly, he still couldn’t believe he had a customer. This had to be the highlight of the night so far. Well, aside from knocking out the owner and tying him up in the back room. That was a good time for sure.
“Well, if you don’t mind me prying, why were you alone in a town like this? Doing a little traveling or something?”
It was pretty obvious from the weaponry that she was a huntress. Or at the very least in training. It probably wasn’t a stretch to say that she’d been out in the wilderness doing good deeds for the poor, or something else that was a complete waste of time.
The young woman was trying to grab a couple of vials that were on one of the top shelves but she wasn’t having any luck, even with her heels. The long braid of hers swayed with every movement she made but in the end it limited her reach by weighing her down.
“Oh, I’m just stopping here for a moment, trying to avoid the rain and all. But, to answer your second question I’m off to Mistral for…diplomatic reasons.” She replied kindly.
“But, If you don’t mind dear, I do need some help getting a few things. My height isn’t exactly allowing me to reach what I’m in need of.”
The man at the register didn’t seem like the type to own a run down dust shop like this, he was dressed like someone from the upper class, someone who looked like a gambler that had better things to do.
“Oh absolutely miss. Anything for a valued customer.” His signature sly grin adorned his lips. Perhaps he was getting a little too into the part. It was still rather fun though pretending to be an honest man. He moved from behind the counter to where the girl was standing.
“So, ‘diplomat’ huh? Running errands for the kingdoms? Or just a messenger girl?“ The words flowed smoothly as he hoisted his cane to the top shelf. He could have reached it easily on his own, but he figured a little extra flair was called for.
He hooked the edge of the stand holding the vials in place, pulling it out just far enough to reveal the bottom. He then used the cane to pop the vial out of it’s slot, deftly catching it in his free hand while simultaneously pushing the stand back into place.
“And here you are, as ordered,” the gambler cooed as he handed the dust to the girl.

“Hey there, Neo! How’s my favorite little partner doing today?” It was a simple greeting as he stood in the doorway spinning his cane around his wrist. The gambler took a couple steps into the room and continued without waiting for a reply.
“Alright, listen. Word’s comin’ down the pipeline that there’s gonna be a huge Schee-co shipment coming through town by train, and I got the insider info on how to get our hands on it. You want in?”
When Roman walked in, Neo was sitting in a chair, legs propped on the desk in front of her as she polished her blade. Hearing Roman’s voice was an immediate delight where as if anyone else just tried to barge in, they might have to crawl out. And what luck, he comes with an activity planned.
“Another heist? My, my, it must be my birthday and nobody told me. Sure, I’d love to spend some quality time with you. But of course I gotta ask, what’s my payment gonna be this time?”
“Wellll, the info broker wants a cut for, you know, providing the info. Now, I’m not one for burning bridges, but he’s also askin’ for quite the chunk of change. Wants thirty percent of the haul.”
He spun his cane just slightly faster with each rotation while he spoke.
“So what I’m thinkin’ is that we only give him ten percent and tell him that we couldn’t get the whole shipment. Then we split the rest, fifty-fifty.” At that moment, he released the cane, sending it straight down. The point hit the ground bouncing it back up into his hand.
“Or I guess it’s forty five-forty five.”

Roman took a long drag from his cigar, holding the smoke in his lungs for several seconds before releasing it. He then tapped the ashes from the tip into the nearby ashtray. Lazy days weren’t a problem for him, per se. But it wasn’t his nature. He always felt the need to do something.
The criminal glanced over at Neo, or more specifically, her parasol. Well, now would be as good a time as any, right?
“You know, I’ve always wondered something,” he began. “Why’d you put a stiletto in that thing instead of a gun?”
Neo didn’t mind a lazy day, she didn’t mind having nothing to do or to protect Roman from. The man had a knack for getting himself into sticky situations with their work and his flair for dramatics. She tilted her head to the side at the other’s question, blinking softly a few times before raising her hands.
A gun doesn’t give me the satisfaction that stabbing someone does.
There wasn’t any reason not to lie about it. She smiled lightly, knowing he probably wasn’t going to judge her for it. Her blood thirst and cunning made her a good assistant.
His head tilted at the answer. It wasn’t unreasonable, certainly. Especially given the tiny brute’s aggressiveness. It was part of the reason he liked having her around. Having muscle you could rely on made all the difference in his work.
“Well, yeah, but you could always just have another blade on hand. I feel like a gun would be more useful. Or a canon. I mean, that thing’s pretty damn blast-proof. You stick a high-impact weapon system in there, and you’d be like a walking tank!”
He took another short drag.
“As it stands, it’s not like you have a lot of options when you’re at range.”

Roman leaned against the entrance of the alleyway, peeking out from under the brim of his hat at the sidewalk extending in either direction. He had been told someone would meet him here to relay orders from his new boss, but still they failed to show their face. He’d stopped at least three people so far with no luck.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed someone new approaching. Maybe this would finally be the one. He tipped his hat back with his cane and turned toward the young woman.
“Hey! You’re Cindy’s friend, right?” he said happily. The criminal would rather keep his allies on the down-low should this one not be correct as well.
Tawny jumped a little as the man turned to her, she stepped back a little, looking at him and raising her eyebrow. “Cindy? I .. don’t know a Cindy.” She muttered. “..Who are you anyway? I’ve never seen you around here before.” The girl crossed her arms as she waited for an answer from the strange man
“Oh, that’s a shame,” he cooed with almost satirical levels of faux disappointment. “Sorry, I’ve been waiting here for a while. Cindy told me her friend would be here by now, but she still hasn’t shown.”
He eyed the girl up and down. Interesting getup. Kind of made her look… strangely avian. Like she might’ve been a faunus. He wasn’t going to ask though, that might be considered rude.
“Me? Oh, I’m just a simple gambler is all. Passing through town, just wanted to catch up with some colleagues.”
“Gambler huh? Thats.. cool, I guess. Do you need some company while you wait? You look bored and honestly I have nothing better to do at all.” The girl shrugged shifted her pose a little. The man looked suspicious to say the least, and hey it was her duty as a huntress in training to look into these things right? “Do you know what “Cindys” friend looks like?”
Roman shrugged a bit and tilted his head. Some company couldn’t hurt. He could always just tell the kid to run along when the representative arrived anyway.
“Alright. Hard to say no to a pretty girl.” He wore a devilish grin as he spoke. In truth, he meant nothing by it. It was simply his standard smile, charismatic and eerie. In combination with his words though, it may have come off a little strong.
“Nah, not sure what they look like. Cindy’s always goin’ on and on about her buddies, but she never even gives a hair color. Kinda hard to meet with someone when you don’t know what to look for, right?”
