Hello everyone! Given that I’ve been offline for nearly two months, it is not a surprise at all to come back to this blog and see that there have been many changes! I’m afraid my threads and I may have been forgotten in the time that I’ve been offline. I have many drafted replies and saved threads, but I would not want to waste my time in replying to a thread in which my partner is no longer interested!

my opinion on;

character in general: Okay, canon Arthur. I love canon Arthur. He can be so petty and snobbish but then he does something cute like soak in a hot spring with Japanese mythological creatures. Or tries to summon the devil but ends up getting Russia instead. But, like every Hetalia character, I would have liked to see the darker side of his nature and more historical references. how they play them: He is a jerk tho!  Your portrayal is actually how I always pictured a historically accurate Arthur to be. There’s compassion in there somewhere, of course, but he’s also rather arrogant and obstinate. Plus, I adore his interactions with Ealga already. There are so many historical plots I want to explore with you, you have no idea. I am simply buzzing with excitement! the mun: Grey is a DARLING. I talk with him occasionally via Skype and our every encounter has been so pleasant. (I wish you the best of luck in Uni, bae!)

follow them: yesrp with them: yeswant to rp with them: all the time! ship their character with mine: Not particularly. I mean, if it ended up happening, it’d be such a love-hate relationship. There’s over 800 years of bad blood between them, after all. Plus I feel like their personalities would clash violently on a daily basis.

overall opinion: A+++ portrayal of Arthur. I grin and clap my hands with joy every time I see you reply. Plus, you are so kind. I hope we can talk more in the future!

When you finally muster the courage to send that text message at 4AM

     Calling for some water to diffuse the whisky, Robert thought it was perhaps best not to continue downing shots in front of Arthur for too long. Perhaps it would spoil any sort-of respect the man had for him? Did he even care too much? Well, maybe. Either way he was more than happy to take a little bit of tonic in his glass. Taking a careful sip from his new dilution, letting the fiery drink sit upon his tongue for a while. Not quite as powerful as the straight whisky, but at least the taste for still there. Not necessarily savouring but ‘cleansing’ his palate. For what? More drinks, probably.

❝ So you find a quick shag in a bathroom appealing? Can’t say that speaks highly for your standards. You might ha’e to look aroun’ for somewhere a bit less… mainstream to find a selling bathroom, ❞ with a ‘hmph’ of laughter which was all too mirthful. Captured and practically emphasised by the glass latched to his lips. Strange how he found himself so funny when he was tipsy. Who needed a stand-up comedian when Robert was there gently chuckling at non-existent jokes and thinking that everyone else has a shit sense of humour not to find him funny.

❝ I didn’t particularly think you were worth the minutes or the text. If you were so concerned then you could have always contacted me yourself, ❞ he shrugged, taking another long drink from his tumbler.

Arthur, per usual, wasted no time in attempting to drink reasonably or to temper his drinks by increasing the ratio of tonic to gin. He often found that he drank even more when he diffused his drinks, and it simply was not economical. 

Besides, if he wanted tonic water, he would go out to buy Schweppes for a pound and pence.

“Oh, shut the fuck up, you know that’s bollocks. I’d sooner go home sober than shag in a loo.” Arthur’s lips pulled into a petulant scowl as his vulgar joke backfired in the extreme; he most certainly would not like a shag in a filthy pub bathroom, least especially when a wankstain such as Robert was present as a witness to such a thing. The morals of the twenty-first century had greatly declined, but he prided himself on maintaining a certain degree of decency in the face of debauchery. Or so he said, in spite of his reputed drunken fiascoes and interesting international trysts. 

“I wasn’t concerned for you. If you were in any trouble, I’m sure I would be ordered to go rescue your arse from whatever hole you’re sinking into.” Arthur abruptly swung an arm over Robert’s shoulders, spilling the drink in his hand onto the counter in the process. It was a risky move, but he relied on luck — and the high expectation that Robert would know better than to have them both tossed from the establishment by throwing a fist and starting a brawl. 

“But really, Robert, is it too much to ask for some affection from my darling brother? You’d think we live on opp’site ends o’ the world or that you hate me!”  Arthur chuckled at his own joke, well aware that his relations with Robert were perhaps not the friendliest, although there was just a smidge of sincerity in his tone. “I could drop you a line. But you better pick up, you toff, especially now that I’m paying for you to get absolutely plastered.”

     Only just did Robert resist the temptation to draw away from the prince’s fingers, feeling somehow patronised by a simple touch. Still he forced a smile, playing the part of a ‘friendly ally’ for the audience.  Finding his seat to the head of the table beside his honourable host, casting a glance around the table as though trying to recognise at least some faces in the crowd.

❝ To our alliance, long may our friendship continue, ❞ even if the final words were spoken through gritted teeth. Friendship, indeed. The two had never met in person but for that morning, even if they had heard much through correspondence. How long had this meeting been planned? It was supposed to be ‘symbolic’, the great coming-together of the heirs to the thrones. His chalice met Arthur’s, the sound ringing out if it weren’t for the noise of the banqueting hall. How often could he have his wine refilled without anyone noticing this evening? He would certainly need the alcohol to make his company tolerable.

❝ I am sure that even as we speak plans are being made for your visit. I will make sure the gardens are in full-bloom for your arrival, of course, ❞ their half-hearted gardens. Robert’s lands were typically chilled and the soil poor, not much grew in the clay-like ground. What would he do to make sure they were viewed as beautiful? Perhaps if Arthur visited in the dead of winter then at least he could dismiss the poor scenery as the result of frost. The thought was considered over a long sip of his drink. ❝ I meant no offence when I spoke of your own gardens, my dear prince. I simply voiced my opinion of feeling rather homesick at the sight. ❞

What a friendship. Arthur wasn’t certain he would trust Robert so far as he could throw the man, which wouldn’t be very far at all in the first place. He certainly would not trust him with his livelihood; the glares that the other prince had often sent his direction would have struck him dead at once, could looks kill. 

Arthur cheerily raised his chalice and touched brims, silently rejoicing in the fact that he could imbibe mulled wine until he was besotted enough to find Robert’s snide remarks and boring, straightlaced personality interesting. There was only so much that mild quips and banter could amuse him, and he was rapidly losing interest in a battle of wits that he was clearly winning.

Raising his drink to his lips, Arthur took a hearty swig, although his eyes remained glued to Robert’s face. Although he appeared to be very focused on what he was saying, he was anything but; instead, he wondered if, under the right amount of wine, he would find Robert handsome. Admittedly, the man already was attractive in a sort of way, and Arthur was by no means in denial about his particular proclivity toward men. 

He realised belatedly that he had been staring long after the prince had finished speaking. 

“Yes, yes, I’m sure there will be enough time before my visit for your gardeners and crew to prepare your gardens,” he said dismissively with a small wave of his fingers, well aware that the soil in Robert’s lands were not rich with nutrients. An easier access to trade and land would be one of the benefits of the arrangement. Arthur took another liberal sip. “I’m sorry to hear that you’re missing the comforts of your home, my darling friend. I’m sure that such revelry and excitement must be exhausting, particularly after such a long journey. Perhaps the wine could make you merry.”

   Hate had always been too simple a word to bestow upon the man who personified the nation that had trod her children underfoot for centuries. Ealga could be the first to admit that none of their kind could possibly be held responsible for everything their people did, but Arthur’s arrogance did not endear her to him early on nor did his sense of superiority. 

Oh how strong she felt now however, to walk out of every world summit with a head held high. After all the fighting and bloodshed, she was a free republic and, although her northern lands still remained inside the United Kingdom, she’d see all her isle returned soon enough. Arthur was getting weak in his old age; she was only getting stronger. 

“Hello, brother,” she greeted coolly with a proud upturning of her face. “I heard you’ve been in quite the pinch lately. How has the mighty Britain been faring?”

Triumph edged her smirk and the glittering in her eyes was reminiscent of a predator sensing a prey animal’s weakness. Look how you have fallen, her viridescent irises seemed to be shouting.

Although Arthur’s power and influence as an empire had been insidiously decimated over the course of the 20th century, the supercilious, haughty arrogance that had accompanied his rise to power had not fallen with his empire. Pride, greed, and ambition were traits embedded in his personality, and they were the traits that had formed so many enemies against him over the many years of his unending existence. He was politically weak in this modern age; a mere shadow of an opportunistic, ravaging empire, the former dominus of the world, and yet he remained unchanged — a stubborn, stoic man, unbent in his scrupulous ways and a paradox by nature. 

Although he was in quite a scandalous dilemma, admitting so was the last thing he would ever do, particularly to the face of Ealga. He knew, long before she spoke those snide words, what she had approached him to say; it was clear from her own haughty stride and pert, upturned nose that she had come to bask in his latest misfortune, and he refused to allow it.

He would put an end to that hope, quickly.

“It’s but a small setback, I’m afraid,” he deflected coolly, delivering a winning smile that did not quite reach his eyes. As though his posture was not already rigidly upright, he straightened further, raising his chin with expert hauteur. “I’m not worried at all. It’s merely inconvenient, but I’ve dealt with far worse and reached the other end superior. In fact, I can’t say I would be surprised if good change came from such a ridiculous indiscretion.”

Walks over to him, and gently stuffs a bundle into his arms. When he gets around to unfolding it he'll find a well knit sweater. "Don't ask, I saw the pattern and thought of you." Nope she is not going admit she really thought he'd like it, and knit it because she likes seeing him happy once in awhile.

It was rare for a man like Arthur to receive gifts of any sort — simply put, he isn’t the type of man to receive presents from anyone. He had made many enemies over the long course of his existence, and although time was said to heal all wounds and mollify old tensions and hatred, it appeared that not enough time had passed for him to fall back into the good grace of many. 

Thus is came as a surprise when Iona abruptly presented him with what could only be called a gift. His instincts made him wary, although a closer inspection of the innocuous bundle supplied that it was soft and not likely harmful. Arthur subtly pressed his fingertips into the soft fabric, suspicious, and surmised that it must be a garment of some sort. 

“You saw something and thought of me? Well now, if it’s something dreadfully ugly, I’m going to be quite offended,” he murmured, although he was undoubtedly curious. He only looked up once into her eyes, searching for a sort of approval, before he carefully unfolded the garment and revealed a lovely sweater, one that perfectly matched the sort he was inclined to wear. It was touching, and Arthur’s brows lifted a fraction higher, his expression revealing his surprise. Without his intending to, his lips curled upward into a small, genuine smile. 

“Thank you. It’s perfect for this autumn. I’ll be sure to wear it soon.”
