SHORT TERM 12(2013) MOVIE REVIEW

    Grace is the young supervisor of Short Term 12, a group home for troubled teenagers. She lives with her long-term boyfriend and coworker, Mason, but finds it difficult to open up to him emotionally. It seems like she has emotional problems too. Because she hides it and hurts herself to let the pressure and pain out of her chest. Soon Grace finds out she is pregnant, but then she schedules an appointment for an abortion, she let Mason know about the pregnancy and so Mason was overjoyed, but not about her plan to have an abortion. At the facility, Grace and Mason focus their efforts on Marcus, a Short Term 12 resident who is about to turn 18 and is struggling with the prospect of leaving the facility.

Grace bonds with Jayden, who just recently joined the facility. Jayden was there because she has a history of self-harm. Jayden distances herself from the other teenagers as she doesn't intend to stay at the facility for long, soon her father fails to pick her up on her birthday, she reacts violently towards the staff after so. After her outburst, she sits in the "cool-down room" with Grace, who shows Jayden her own scars from cutting herself and Grace shoed her scars in her ankles that turns out to be results of self-harnming too. That night, Jayden leaves the facility in the middle of her birthday celebrations and, unable to force her to return, Grace follows Jayden to her father's house. After finding the house empty, they return to Short Term 12. When Jayden reads Grace a cryptic story she has written, Grace begins to suspect that Jayden was abused by her father.

     At a party hosted by Mason's foster parents, Mason propoed to Grace and Grace said yes eventually. The following morning, Grace is upset by a phone call that reveals her father is being released from prison, whom has a history of abuse to his child Grace, Grace then refused Mason's comfort. She arrives at Short Term 12 to discover that Jayden has been picked up by her father overnight. Shge reacted and went to her boss, but then according to her boss Jayden intentionally wanted to go back at her house adn denied that she was abused by her father.

    At the facility Grace found out Marcus cut himself in the wrist trying to finish his own life. They rushed him into the hospital While waiting at the hospital as Marcus is being treated, Grace breaks down and Mason becomes upset with her for refusing to talk to him about how she feels; instead, she tells him that she no longer wants to marry him and that she plans to have an abortion. Upset, she returns to Jayden's father's house and breaks in, intending to injure him while he sleeps, but she is interrupted by Jayden, who suggests that they smash his car instead. Grace opens up to Jayden about being sexually abused by her own father, and after Jayden shows Grace bruises from where her father hit her they return together to Short Term 12, where Jayden reports her father for physical abuse. Grace goes home to apologize to Mason, who tells her that Marcus will recover.

     After how many weeks, Grace decided to see therapist and soon they see an ultrasound of their baby. Mason announced it in their officemates and there he saw Marcus doing so fine after the incident. Lastly, Mason and Grace was in the car driving happily.

THIS MOVIE WILL SURELY MAKE YOU LEARN IN LIFE, especially for the millennial out there. 

     Short Term was an eyeopener, especially for the parents that must've not care that much about their children. It is like a warning to those parents who abuse their children. And its like a sign to the government for themto be alert with cases like this.

THE MOST POWERFUL PART OF THE MOVIE FOR ME         I was like "FINALLY" when Jayden decided to report his own father's doings such as abusing her. That was my favorite part because it opened an oppurtunity for Jayden to finally be free from his father whom is scaring that if she reports to the police he will hurt her. It was powerful for me because it shows that children especiallly girl teenagers have voices too and shouldn't be treated bad. It reminded parents out there who has been bad to their children that their bad deeds must and will come to an end soon.

MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THIS MOVIE..        My fave character in this movie was Grace of course. She showed braveness and empathy to the children in the facility. She showed determination in getting justice for Jayden, in general for those children who are abuse and was given lack of love by his parents. She didnt give up on herself when she owned her problems by herself.        This movie reminded me of a friend who is rebelious because she was more like derelict than abuse. She was given little to no attention by her parents. And soon she found herself working on a carenderia near us and continued her fight in this lifetime without her parents who are abusive and disrespectful.      If I were to ask Mason, I would ask him if did he truly gave up or done with Grace in the part of the movie where he say so? Cause technically in the end, they are still together.

LION MOVIE REVIEW

     MOVIE SUMMARY         

          Lion is a movie based on a real life story. It is a story of a five year old child who lived in india with his poor but happy family. He was close with his brother Guddu, so close he would go whenever saroo would want to go. On a trip with his brother, Saroo soon finds himself alone and trapped in a moving decommissioned passenger train that takes him to Calcutta, 1500 miles away from home. From that day, Saroo struggles to survive alone with street children. one night he was caught by authorities together with other street children and was sent to an orphanage. Soon, he was selected to be adopted by Australian couple the Brierly Family in Tasmania. soon they fly together with saroo in Tasmania and then there with that family he grew up and was very loved by his foster family. After how many years, Saroo found himself still haunted by the memories of his past which is his family, where have they been, how are they, and many more. He tried to find his family with the help of a revolutionary technology called Google Earth. However, he kept this from his adoptive parents and even his girlfriend.  Soon he let them know it, and continue to fin the place where he lived before. After how many days he traveled many miles to go back and soon discovered his family was still there. He first met his mother, whom claimed that they didn’t want to go far for they have high hopes of him going back to his hometown again. He soon found out that his brother Guddu was already gone/dead. And lastly, a clip showed that Guddu returned in the train station, it turns out he didn’t intentionally leave Saroo there and he went back immediately to him that same night Saroo was lost. On the last part of the movie, a clip of Saroo, his adoptive and biological mothers hugging and thanking each other was inserted. The movie just showed us that, no matter how far destiny leads us, we will surely go back to the place we truly belong, and that is family.

YOU WILL CERTAINLY LEARN A LOT FROM THIS MOVIE

Adults always say that "Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinaggalingan, hindi makakapunta sa kanyang patutunguhan" I always bear that in my mind that's why I always put my feet on the ground whatever I achieve in my life. That's what I learned in this movie. Another thing is learn to be independent, determined and brave especially on problems that we know we cannot solve if we became weak and emotional. Saroo also taught me that love for the family is constant, especially the love of a mother to a child.

THE MOST TOUCHING PART OF THE MOVIE FOR ME.

       I don’t know to you but I find the part where a flashback was flashed in the movie most shocking and heartwarming. That flashback showed that his brother didn’t leave him, he just left for a while and went back to him that same night in that same place. If Saroo, didn’t ran away and stayed hew wouldn’t be gone for a long time. That flashback also brought the love of a brother for his baby brother because it just comes to show that his brother find him, then the brother eventually died.

Guess who is my favorite character in this movie....

       My favorite character in this movie is of course Saroo. He didn’t give up on finding his way back to his family and he didn’t also give up on himself. He loved his foster family as much as his own. He was brave to face the world alone as a little child up to his adulthood. Truly, if you have the will to survive and conquer the problems, you will indeed will.  Saroo reminded a memory, wherein I was lost in the grocery, well its nothing like Saroo's experience. However, I was lost and I couldn't find my mother in the grocery store which was a little wide. I ran and ran and was hopefully wishing to see my mom already. And after like 30 mins of roaming around, yep, I found her. I found her shopping in the fake flowers area. It was like a mini heart attack I experienced out there. That moment reminded me of what happened to Saroo because I imagined myself, what if I was totally lost in that day, would I be like Saroo, brave and strong? I would like to ask Saroo, how did he managed to be brave and determined for a long time when he had the chance to leave his past and go on with his life without meeting his biological family.

WONDER MOVIE REVIEW

      Stephen Chbosky's movie which is entitled WONDER, that is according to my research is New York Times bestseller is a story of a fifth grader August "Auggie" Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) who sees himself as an ordinary kid. Science is her favorite, also his favorite holiday is halloween 'cause its where he get to bond with his sister Via. He lives in upper Manhattan with his parents Isabel (Julia Roberts) and Nate (Owen Wilson), sister Olivia, AKA Via (Izabela Vidovic), and their charming dog Daisy.          Let me describe Auggie to you, he was born with deformed face. He already had undergone 27 surgeries, since birth for his parents want his face to be just as the same as theirs. But then besides it all, they love him unconditionally. Because of his facial deformity, he has been home-schooled and he frequently wears an astronaut helmet to hide his face. On that year, Auggie will officially go to a regular school which is a thing that his parents debate on for like, forever. He went to school which is Breecher Prep, a private school and met some friends there. Some where bully, some turns out to be good. They meet Mr. Tushman (Mandy Patinkin), the school's director. He introduces Auggie to the three kids who will be giving him a tour - Jack Will (Noah Jupe), Julian (Bryce Gheisar), and Charlotte (Elle McKinnon). The kids bring Auggie to their classes, with Charlotte rambling on about her various acting gigs. Julian teases Auggie, but Jack and Charlotte are nicer to him.         The whole family went to take Auggie to school during his first day. His mom worries, other kids will be mean to him. And so moving on, Auggie enters his first class with Mr. Browne (Daveed Diggs) as his teacher. Jack, Julian, and Charlotte are all his classmates too. After Auggie is called on to speak and mentions his love for the Star Wars, but then Julian starts calling him Darth Sidious. Throughout the rest of the day, other children at the school stares weirdly at him and avoid making contact with him. At the end of the day, Isabel picks Auggie up, and he immediately puts on his astronaut helmet. He runs to his room crying. Isabel tries to comfort and encourage him to not let what the other kids say bother him.          Lets go to Auggie's sister Via's point of view. She is a selfless sister to Auggie that she keeps her own emotional needs just for her parents to be less loaded with problems knowing the condition of her brother Auggie. She loves him and is also protective over him. Via has a bestfriend Miranda, that turned out to have other friends already on the first day of school when they'd bumped into each other and seems like she doesn't want to be friends with Via anymore she kept on rejecting Via. Miranda has pink highlights too, its like a totally new Miranda for Via. Later that day, Via meets Justin (Nadji Jeter), who convinces her to try out for the drama club and their upcoming production of "Our Town". After how many days, she decided to sign up.        At school Jack quickly approach Auggie, and so they became friends at school given that Jack Will is the only person Auggie is friends with at school. On Halloween, their mom wants via to be at home to do some bonding. On the other hand Auggie goes to school and for halloween he wears  Ghostface (from "Scream") instead of his original planned Boba Fett costume because Daisy threw up on it. Auggie loves halloween because he gets to wear a mask that allows him not to show his face and not feel like a freak which everyone calls him. Moving on he entered the classroom and saw Julian talking to his friend with a Darth Sidious costume mocking him. That time he also overheard Jack Will saying that he would most likely kill himself if he looked like Auggie. He claimed to be sick so that his mom will pick him up at school. He left school picked up by his mom and immediately ran into his room after they arrived at home. Via was worried and so he ran immediately after Auggie to his room. He tells her what he heard Jack say. Although he wants to quit school, Via convinces him he shouldn't.       Their lovely dog tends to get more sick and so they took her to the vet. Later that night they went home with just the collar of Daisy. The family misses their dog so much everytime.       At Via's school, she gets the role of understudy for the character of Emily, while Miranda earns that part. Outside of school, she starts to date Justin. Jack goes up to Summer and asks her why Auggie stopped talking to him. She only tells him "Ghostface". It takes him a while to piece it together, but he realizes he saw Auggie overhearing what he said about him on Halloween. During science class, the teacher pairs Jack and Auggie together since they are table buddies, but Julian and their friend Amos (Ty Consiglio) had planned to work with Jack. Jack chooses to stay with Auggie. After class Julian and Jack had a fight because Julian called Jack a freak. But then Jack never told Mr. Tushman what Julian said so that the story just ends up there. Julian later starts to leave cruel notes on Auggie's desk and locker. They put a photo-shopped picture of the class without Auggie and a note on the back that says "Do everyone a favor and die!" Tushman calls Julian's parents in to discuss the bullying. His parents don't seem to care for what he's done and think it's more of a problem that Auggie was admitted, with Julian's mom claiming that he's had nightmares because of him and that the other kids are too young to deal with this sort of thing. When Tushman doesn't side with them, Julian's parents decide to pull him out of school when the year is up. He becomes distraught because it would mean leaving his friends. Julian apologizes to Tushman for what he's done.         The whole family of Auggie went to Via's school for the play aforementioned. While getting ready, Miranda realized that nobody would be there to watch her as the star of the show and so she faked to be sick and she let Via play the role of hers at the play. Via performed and she did a very great job. For that, her whole family is so proud of her.        A few months near the end of the year, Auggie's class goes on a nature trip near. During the trip, while the class is watching "The Wizard of Oz", Auggie and Jack sneak out to have fun elsewhere near their place. They are then harassed by three seventh graders who mock Auggie for his look. They start to physically harass the boys until Amos and two other boys show up to defend Auggie and Jack. But then, they knocked the leader of the seventh graders down and then ran after it. Afterwards, all the boys stopped by the lake to watch the sunset and they realized they are lucky they have each other as friends.     The end of the school year now arrived, it is now Auggie's graduation day. During so, Tushman goes up to present the Henry Ward Beecher Medal to an exceptional student whose character was demonstrated through their schoolwork and relationships with others. The award surprisingly goes to Auggie. Auggie goes up the stage to recejve the award. His family and friends are so proud of him. Actually all the people in the hall, gave Auggie a standing ovation. The ending was perfect.

This movie is a bomb!It gave me lessons in life that'll sure remain in my heart forever.

         There are 3 lessons in life that I learned in this movie that I want to share with you. First, no matter how big the rocks life throw at us, catch and smash it with your hopes and you will conquer it at the end of the day. Hope  is the only thing we can hold onto. Our hopes may be shakened at times like what happened in the mother of Auggie. As a mother, she wont lose hope in saving the life of her son. She even took the risk of letting Auggie go to a normal school considering his condition with the hope of Auggie having social interaction with people and having actual friends that he can lean to and enjoy life with. Second, a genuine friendship is forgiving and unconditional. As I observe in the movie, the friendship Miranda and Olivia, Auggie and Jack have is something to be treasured forever. But then this sudden change of heart of Miranda hits Olivia and the relationship that they have. Also the backstabbing of Jack to Auggie affected him so much that he generalized everyone in his school to be unkind and unseemly to people with his condition. This leads me to the third lesson that I learned in this movie, nobody is perfect. Eveybody makes mistakes not once, twice but possibly everyday. As we make mistakes, we should learn from it to, dont do it again and do better, or best rather. People hurt us, but we learn to forgive just as Jesus forgive us, and even save us.

I wanna share with you the most powerful part of the movie for me.

       The most striking part of the movie for me is the last part. That is where Auggie was recognized by the whole school for being such a good model, a friend, a son, a sibling. Auggie was truly an inspiration for all especially for those children who are bullies and bad. That wasthe part that like pinched my heart and make my eyes tear. Seeing how happy a child innocent and brave like him stand out and be better than most of the called normal children out there. Its definitely worth the time and it reminded me of a friend who is underestimated and bullied, now he is now part of the honor roll in their school proving to everyone he can do it even in his condition.

Guess who is my favorite character in the movie....

      My favorite character in the movie wasn't Auggie though. It is his sister, Olivia or via, because I see myself in her character. She embodies the attitude of a teenager whom I can say, I am now. She has been generous enough to allow her brother to be the center of the family’s attention at the expense of her own emotional need. Like her, I tend to be selfless when it comes to family matters, I am an only child but I have younger cousins, nephews and nieces whom I can call much more needy of our family's attention. Via's character just prove to us that a sister's genuine love is helpful in a family setting like theirs whuch is true to some of my family conditions too.

If I were to ask Via, I would ask if how does she do it.

How does she became strong allowing her family to be centered at Auggie's life knowing that she still exist in their life.

lowkey tech review.

        Technology has grown bigger and bigger as time pass by. And the need of having one is growing too or should I say the want? Well as for me, having a gadget or a machine is a need already. It makes our lives easier and better, am I right? Technology will either make you or destroy you too. I can say some techs are addictive because of the pleasure and benefits that is present to this gadget. Every individual has its own purpose in life therefore we all have that gadget that makes our lives easier.

        I am a selfie adict person and i love to take photos on memories that are worth cherishing for, that's why the gadget that makes my life easier in taking pictures even without editing it is the DSLR camera. We all know that every traveler needs a camera for them to shoot a vlog or take pictures for remembrance and also for evidences that they came to that place or country. Each DSLR has it's different megapixels that determins how clear the picture is if it's already taken, it also has its different lenses to add the zooming capacity of the camera, and it also has its detachable flash to create a brighter color scheme of the picture taken.

        DSLR camera is also widely used in special occasions like Debuts, wedding, retirement day, and so much more. This technology is easier to use unlike any other cameras that you still need to wait a little longer after the shot has taken for you to get a clear shot and worse if your hands are a little bit shaky, you'll get a blurry picture of the subject you want to capture, while in a DSLR camera, you just need to half click the capture button for focusing purposes then full click to take the shot. You can even adjust its lighting effect and has its different filters for some DSLR camera's. After that, you'll get a clear and perfect shot for your memories. Easy as it is. That's why this DSLR camera became my favorite gadget.

How do you see yourself 10 years from now? 

     I am not obsessed with timing honestly, I’m actually late most of the time in my classes. Because, I believe that what is important is I do my best whenever I need to. Although, I’m not the early bird at school, one thing is for sure, that is my success in 10 years. Yes, I’m claiming it! What's wrong with having high dreams and doing everything for you to get it. 

         Atty. Gellanne Dominique A. Lobaton, CPA. I’m probably not yet married by this time but then happily in love and in God's will travelling the world with my love ones too. I would also like to foresee myself having a Charity helping all those who has talent but don’t have the money or yet guts to showcase it. I will be an instrument for them to enhance and develop their talent in singing, dancing and acting. I will be offering workshops for free since me myself and I love music at the deepest of my heart too. 

         St. Paul University Philippines, taught lot of things to me. I feel like if I weren’t there or if I didn’t study there life for me until now is meaningless and plain. It taught me how to be independent and brave to stand for myself whenever I need to especially this school is wide and big. I always tend to get nervous with the idea of going to another school and meeting new people, but then SPUP made it easier for me. I guess, If I weren’t here, I wont be who I am today, brave and bold.      

       Life is short. Lets live our lives to the fullest for were only given one chance to live. I have simple yet big dreams. And I stand by it, I will prove that not a single person in this world can underestimate any woman, especially me. 

I entered STEM strand in my Senior High School, was STEM the best choice after all?

        I was clueless what strand in K to 12 to choose before because I;m undecided in what course to get in college. I was young, carefree and selfish before. Adults say I’m like a raw vegetable waiting to be cooked or if not rotten. I’m afraid I picked the wrong strand. Because career survey results that I get isn’t aligned with STEM. It is more on business side or if in STEM it is more suitable in Engineering or Architecture, but I don’t want those course. It just turns out that going with the flow isn’t advisable for some reasons, definitely not for me.

There are many courses in this world, what would I get?

        I am finally decided after 2 years of studying in my senior high school studying in STEM strand, unknowingly I really want to be in the ABM strand. I bet, it wont be a problem in college, I hope so. I want to a Certified Public Accountant, after so a lawyer. Some says its hard to be one, but that’s what it is nothing in this world is hard for those who are hardworking and determined to get what they want. 

WE HAVE AN EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGY SUBJECT YA’LL.         I always find this subject, Empowerment Technology, interesting and brain wracking. Interesting because I want to know more knowledge about technology and what does it bring to us. Brain wracking because there is so much more to learn from it you don’t know where to start and its somehow hard because you have to learn editing and other stuffs you didn’t even know that exists. I want to learn more about coMputer programming, creating a website, and creating an application. Most of the time, I want E-tech subject, it adds up to my knowledge and makes my life easier too.

 AND LASTLY, I’ve got a question for our dear empowerment technology teacher. he made me post my first tmblr post. Shout to Mr. Carlos Babaran Jr. Sir, are you happy?

HI.

       I like Cinderella's Story most out of all Disney Princesses. She is kind, patient and obedient. Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to be a mermaid like Ariel. I admire her braveness and strength as a woman. I mean that,s the spirit Ariel! Although Mulan for me is brave and bold too. I always have a crush on the charming and lovely face of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora, she is an epitome of beauty indeed. Well, Snow White isn’t gonna let those beat her, she is like the apple of my eye when they appear on television because of her undeniable cuteness together with the seven dwarfs even though she was gullible and ate the apple given to her, uhuh not good Snow White! I don’t know what to say because I am a little bit jealous of the love story of Belle with the Beast turns out to be a handsome prince charming. 

       Lets erase the bubble of thoughts in our minds for a while. Because no matter how I dream of to be one of them I cant be. But then I can say, I can be whoever I want me to be.       

       Hey, what’s up everyone! I hope you’re seizing every moment in your life and living as if there is no tomorrow so do I! Everyday is a brand new day, that is my perspective every time I wake up with the mistakes I did during the past and living my tomorrow not doing it again. Every day is a brand new day, meaning another day to be better, or best rather.

         I am either optimistic and pessimistic, but I try to be more optimistic. It depends on the situation but I tend to look at the bright side of everything and disregarding the negatives. I am such an outspoken person I don’t want to be what you call a two-faced person (meaning plastic bes) that’s why. I say what’s on my mind but think thousand times before I do. I am barely quiet, if that’s a thing? Haha. Well, I know how to blend in, if the environment is quiet, so am I. If the environment is clangorous, so am I.  I am a curious person, so I question everything almost every time, I like to call me, inquisitive than nosy though. 

          I am both an introvert and extrovert. I like outdoor activities, at the same time I pike staying all day in bed or inside the house doing nothing but self time. I am occasionally lazy, is that even a thing? Well, I find myself procrastinating all the time and I function better when I’m in a rush or in the last minute of something.  

             I like the idea of people underestimating the things that I can do. Because if they underestimate me, it’s a chance for me to let them see what I can do and prove to them no one should underestimate anyone. However, i don’t care about what people say, except for my loved ones. I think that’s a problem, because I tend to not care and do what I think is right even if sometimes its wrong already as long as it makes me happy. 

           Call me selfish, but this is my life, you have yours, live it and leave me alone. I am selfish on that part but I’m selfless when it comes to making my loved ones happy. Because their happiness is mine too. I like to fight for what I believe in, especially when I know I am righteous. 

          Lets move on, I want you to know that I love music and art. I see myself performing on a stage on my own concert someday, if that’s what you call 'feelingera' its fine *who cares*. Well, I can say performing is my forte but I tend to develop my self-confidence more and so I want to perform and perform until I need not to enter workshops anymore. I like singing and dancing most. My talent is my way of expressing myself and introducing myself too.      

           Unlike those princesses aforementioned. I am true, true to all, true to myself. I am an only child. I am pure Filipina. I speak english, tagalog and a lil bit ilocano. I’m gonna be 18 in 2 months, phew, wish I can postpone it though. My close friends call me by my nickname Mickay, Gell, Gelay, but if were not close dont, kidding. You can call me Gellanne too, double L and double N. My whole name is Gellanne Dominique A. Lobaton. I will end this and leave you with my favorite bible verse.
