First, let’s take a look at some pictures that are guilty of subversion to feminism:
I feel like there is more going on than, “I’m practicing my 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.” These have a specific aim in mind, one that is both consciously and subconsciously affecting the way we view guns and feminism. Here are a fews points:
1. THESE ARE MOSTLY MARKETING CAMPAIGNS.
At least the first 3 are. Coding guns in pink made specifically for women. Guns are not cute, and they shouldn’t be treated like they are just a toy.
2. IN THIS DAY AND AGE IN THE U.S., WHAT USE DOES A SMALL CHILD HAVE TO OWN A RIFLE, LET ALONE AN ASSAULT RIFLE?
This goes even deeper than the first. Now there is marketing for parents to get their children weapons, under the guise of “responsibility.” This is deplorable at best, considering it’s a young girl pictured, along with an actual toy/stuffed animal.
Now the third image captures even more. This is an ad, which is disturbing at best. The new mother is holding an assault rifle in one hand and her child in the other, while advertising silencers and envoking human rights. I think the image speaks for itself.
3. The last picture is a tweet from a girl who went to parkland. But there’s something that is noticeable in all of these pictures; these are all white women, and the ads mainly target these women. Where are the gun toting African American women, or the half child holding, half gun raising Hispanic woman advocating to fight for her human rights? Yeah, you aren’t going to really see that are you?
Now why is this a subversion to feminism? Because it is using it in the wrong way, one that is centered STILL around violence. Does anyone feel safe on the opposite end of a gun? No, not really.
