So as some of you know Greggy has been taking swim lessons at noonanfamilyswimschool since last January. And as most of you know, or see, he is absolutely our little fishy. We are so lucky because they offer the opportunity for Greggy to get a private lesson for the price of a group! Because of his autism he would not be attentive, listen or be able to communicate or complete tasks like the other nuro-typical kids in a group. So he desperately needed that one on one instruction.
They are so awesome with him too, and even the coaches that have done make up lessons are great. He love Miss. Amber, his normal weekly coach. And we not too long ago found out she is actually working very hard going to school to work with kids like Gregory! How amazing is that?!? He has made so much progress over this last year. It is really such a joy to see him be more confidant in the water, and really just go for it. He’s not 100% pool safe but we are working on it, and with the weather heating up we will get more opportunities at home to work on skills too. With that being said he has met the first benchmark of a Red 1!!!!! How cool is that!!! So Gregory has been able to show that he can perform the 4 skills for this stage when asked, he can Blow Bubbles, Superman Glide on his own off the dock to the wall for about 2 feet, front float eyes in for 3 seconds, and fully submerge his head. Now I know what your thinking, that dosen’t seem too hard, and your right. But for Greggy face these are HUGE leaps forward. This is all very sensory heavy for him. Floating, getting his hair wet, have water in his ears and nose, understanding he needs to hold his breath and so on. It messes with his equilibrium and it is a whole other level of body awareness that he has to adapt to. These are big things to be okay with, especially for him and he's doing it! We are so proud of the leaps he takes, how he can get up onto a float mat safely (Elbow, Elbow, Tummy, Knee, Knee). How he gets brave and pushes of the wall to go back before he's asked, and even when he stops listening and he remembers he can touch the bottom of the pool and he will sit there and bob because he's tall enough. 😆 I am so grateful for all these amazing people who are so well trained on their professions, and do it because the really love it. These are the people making a difference in boogies life, and damit, it is so fun to watch.
