Logs on. Does reply. Updates exclusivity list. Puts blog back on hiatus.
“Perhaps.”
Albeit not necessarily the case. What he had said still stood, and he had no intent on changing his mind – nor, necessarily, on rambling on further. It was just a passing thought, not something he was too worried about; she could understand what he had brought up, much as he could see where she was coming from. Without them absolutely butting heads, anything more than his single-word answer would be a waste of breath.
Tensa, himself, knew a fair bit about defying rules. Who was he to say any outcome could be certain? His existence in and of itself was an anomaly.
The sudden movement from the younger of the duo had Tensa’s eyes glancing over to watch her, as well, giving a low chuckle at how absolutely interested she had been in something that in his eyes was so simple. Everything must be a game to these two, hm? That had him chuckling again, but only until the remaining spirit spoke up.
“So you would be by his side if he were to require you, mm?” A low sigh passed his lips, eyes lowering, half-lidded. He was grateful that his hood would conceal most of his expression, and therefore any betrayal of his emotions. “I have my reasons to be out like this, none of which are particularly worth sharing.”
Or, rather, none that he was willing to share.
“Ichigo will have no need of me for… some time, I guarantee you.”
“– I am simply doing what I can by myself, be it even so simple as scouting, in the meanwhile.”
〖✾〗 Katen smiled at the other’s short response, purple ringlets jostled as she shot him a sideways look, just in time to catch the brief moment of mirth. It was nice to know he was capable of laughter, the terse manner beginning to remind her of the Master’s lieutenant. In other circumstances she might have made a game of bringing a smile to that serious young face. Sadly the grim scenery of a battlefield hardly suited such thoughts.
“I would of course respond to his summons. The little one might be a bit delayed, given she’s found a new diversion.”
She turned fully to study the other zanpakutō, itching with curiosity to know what he was hiding. The inability to see into his eyes, to read anything in the expression shrouded by the hood was infuriating as much as it was tantalizing. “Wouldn’t you be fun to play cards with, so careful with your emotions.” The thought was spoken out loud, an idle statement edged with wistfulness for simpler times.
“Even in these oddly peaceful hours you shouldn’t be wandering alone.” With a sigh that conveyed great frustration she tapped her lips with a long-nailed finger.
“I could accompany you, a scouting mission sounds like a lot of bother, but it would be less droll than sitting around waiting for the next attack.”
update - blog on indefinate hiatus. I’m over at @desurteils if anyone is looking
“A story like mine should never be told. For my world is as forbidden as it is fragile; without its mysteries it cannot survive.”

it was always in her best interest to go unseen and tucked away in the shadows. she was a predator– a killer above all. what was probably meant as “playful” sass became a compliment to the serpent. shinso would let the silence settle in, looking the spirit over a few more times before taking a step closer. ❝ snakes only reveal themselves before they bite– ❞ her words, light and soft, had a rather dark undertone to them, but she was in no rush to cross swords with her. it would be tedious… ❝ not that i intend on devouring you. there are other more appetizing things around. ❞
❝ My my, quite the amusing little viper aren't you? ❞
The slightest flash of delight flickered in the spirit’s eyes as the other moved closer. The potential for entertainment was more than apparent to Katen and she found no small pleasure in the prospect of a lively contest with someone who wasn't afraid to hold their own. A banter of words being the more preferable option to a troublesome fight, she maintained an unthreatening poise, hands slipped within the sleeves of her kimono.
❝ Far be it from me to interrupt your meal, but perhaps we might converse a while before you slither off to sate your hunger? ❞

She was standing on the boundary between dark and light, her image shifting between shimmering moonlight and ink-blank shadow. Not responding immediately to His words, Kyo watched as petals were tugged from gnarled black branches to scatter aimlessly onto the dying grass.
Changing. Yes things were changing, even here in their private world for three. It wasn't anything to fear, just new.
Satisfied, the girl gave the smallest of nods before stepping backwards, letting the shadows wrap her in silky embrace. The Other could worry about such things, she had better things to do with her time. A frayed and shattered realm offered more places to play hide and seek, after all.
