Aziraphale should have dipped Crowley into a deep and passionate kiss that was fueled by 6000 years of repression right before shooting God in the face with the holy Tommy gun he kept hidden in the hollowed out Bible he stowed under his bed
Bold to assume he wouldn't be doing both at the same time. That's THE Southern Pansy you're talking about
what if the ship of theseus was entirely dismantled into nonexistance in a single second, and then a literal billion years later it was remade but no one remembered that it used to be the ship of theseus and it wasnt even called the ship of theseus, it also wasn't made of the same materials the original ship was made of, and it didnt sail the route it used to, and it was missing many of the functions that it had originally had, also no one actually even knows who theseus was, and even though theseus built the original ship he doesnt even exist in this version of the universe. And also now the ship has a really bad paint job and it kind of just looks the same as every other ship and it's going to rot within 40 years or less whereas the first one was perpetual and a universal constant of sorts. Would it still be the ship of theseus?
Ship of Theseus but no dillema cause it sucks
it's been over a month since the film came out, and I still can't shake the feeling that aziraphale got reduced to an empty extension of crowley. he became his burden, his manipulator, the villain responsible for every problem in crowley’s life
crowley ended up at the center of the entire story. the film constantly frames him as a tragic, miserable figure, but a lot of his actions barely make sense. after losing his miracles and bentley, why didn’t he stay in the bookshop? the idea that "it hurt too much" doesn’t really work for me considering how much that place meant to him and how much he cared for it. and after winning at the casino, why refuse the money? it felt less like character writing and more like the story trying to force sympathy: "look how much aziraphale ruined his life." which makes even less sense when they reconcile almost immediately afterward
and then there’s aziraphale. he basically becomes the scapegoat. heaven dislikes him, people on earth blame him for leaving whickber street and crowley, and suddenly he’s treated like some selfish careerist who never truly loved crowley and only cared about his angelic side. the line "you were the best angel" ... fuck. seriously?
what bothers me most is seeing people say things like "crowley suffered because aziraphale kept rejecting him." at that point I genuinely wonder if we watched the same story. how do you watch season 2 and come away thinking aziraphale’s motivations and character weren’t get rewritten?
i hate that most of their physical intimacy is haunted to the point where i doubt they got to enjoy any of it. they held hands for miracles. they danced but crowley was panicking about the demons outside. he confessed knowing it was doomed. they kissed but it was out of desperation. finger kiss but they are about to die? held hands again but ah too late they are evaporating.
I absolutely hate the way the story finished, and because of its ending season 2 by extension, but if we focus ONLY on season 1, their love is felt in other ways than physical. In particular, in how human they can be. Their love for good food and wine, for the Bentley, for all of humanity. Not a love for humanity in the messed up ending that the series showed, but in what the human experience is. My beautiful gays sharing food at the ritz is a form of tender love that almost makes me cry from how perfect it is.
You know what no one mentioned (as far as I saw)? Everyone got dumber starting season 2, and in everyone I wanna focus on God- the Narrator.
Can y'all remember anything they said after season 1 that was half as funny as their commentary during it? Every explanation was hilarious. And starting season 2, everything they said felt so extremely unremarkable and unfunny by comparison.
Say it with me: IT. IS NOT. ABOUT. THE FUCKING. KISS!!! That’s not why people are mad.
The Ending SUCKS because the WRITING SUCKS.
NO, I don’t find the concept of ‘tHeY FiNd eACh oThEr IN eVerY uNivErSe’ beautiful.
1) Because they don’t. There’s zero evidence that this is a recurring thing, thats 100% fandom copium- and even then they don’t have any of their memories and aren’t the same people. THATS. NOT. THEM. And it never will be because people are the sum of their experiences AND THEIR CHOICES. You don’t take a comedy Christian satire and make the solution some Buddhist-esque reincarnation philosophy that requires an entirely new suspension of disbelief no one signed up for or wanted. That’s shit writing.
2) So not only does the finale spit on every theme it had prior regarding championing human choice as miraculous and the world being worth fighting for in all its flaws as it is- you are going to sit here and tell me that actually they never had any choice at all, so they decided to toss everything down the garbage disposal for the next life. That is, frankly, terrible, and nihilistic, and not at all sensible for this series.
Aziraphale and Crowley are a wonderful love story because they were on opposite sides and they CHOSE each other, and they CHOSE to love humans. They chose to be hedonistic and compassionate and selfish and ‘human’ as they were because they knew how to make choices. Their love has always been THEIR choice.
So how can you tell me that the ending is great because they sacrificed everything for humans to have free choice- which they already had by the way- and then say the ending is beautiful because Aziraphale and Crowley are Predestined to love each other in every reality. How is that not massively hypocritical to the concept they are trying to sell us last minute out of nowhere? Is predestiny not the antithesis of what they asked for by your own definition?!
How is taking their 6000 years of choosing each other over and over again, and summing it down to a deterministic soul bond, more ‘free will’ or beautiful than them literally defying cosmic powers just to stay together and eat dinner at the Ritz on a casual Tuesday?!
People act like their life was just complete suffering, but they were perfectly happy on their own earth. Season 1 left them exactly where they wanted to be!!! Together with the Earth. It was so EASY to circle back to that, all they had to do was write it, and no one would have questioned it because that’s THEM and what they want to be doing. If Adam defied Satan for humanity, why would Jesus Christ- who’d already died once for the salvation of humanity- not tell God to be merciful?! Why not have the humans make the choice, rather than Crowley- which is another hypocritical move because he’s making choices for them just like he’s telling god not to!
How do we have any evidence this new world doesn’t have a god? Trust? In the woman who just destroyed the world after having a casual laugh with Satan? Okay. They didn’t trade their existence for freedom, they traded the apple of knowledge for ignorance.
The fact is, is that the world that championed choice and love was the one they came from, not the one they sacrificed themselves for- because choice and love doesn’t mean there are no complications, it means you take a stand and you do what you want anyways.
This dystopian nightmare of an ending where they let the universe die and don’t know each other was never a thought in anyone’s mind until it came into existence with the most shallow and contrived justifications of all time ten minutes before close, and that’s because it’s out of character nonsense. And I’m sick of hearing ‘they were always gonna be human’ ‘it was always gonna be this way’ like there was rational grounds for it beforehand. No it wasn’t, and it certainly didn’t need to be. At most it was everyone’s joke of a worst case scenario, and that’s what they decided to give us- probably after a quick google search to find out what would piss everyone off the most.
This was Neil Gaiman and his team of horror writers, who probably didn’t even consider the source material, throwing a temper tantrum and abusing the fandom for liking Terry Pratchett’s divine optimism more than his petty ass. They designed every ridiculous contingency in this horrible script to justify their own mess.
The Ineffable Husbands were fine as they were. Even as a Demon and an Angel they were already ‘human’ enough, THATS what was funny. What the hell is so great about being mortal and not being able to have a free table whenever they want, and having to deal with real world shit like taxes, and homophobia, and Dying?
Enough Dyin’. No Maur DYIN’. It’s it’s-ITS NOT ON!!!
The two were horribly out of character this entire film. All the film did was spit on the world building and take the magic out of it.
The issue with being raised in a southern country but preferring winter is that I'm never fully happy. I want the long days, I need my daylight to thrive. But get rid of the heat and bring back snow
This post on Twitter kinda sums up the entirety of what's wrong with Good Omens 3 - they destroyed all the magic. They destroyed that magical, whimsical, optimistic universe and replaced it with bleak reality, a world without magic. Before the finale, we could visit all these places and believe that they were there, read ancient history and believe that they'd been there, blame our computer troubles on Newt, take things as prophecies from Agnes Nutter...and now? We're left with emptiness.
every day i wake up and hate the finale a little bit more. what do you mean you made me watch them kill themselves with zero prior indication this is where the story was going. what do you mean the threads introduced in the previous season got absolutely zero resolution. what do you mean new threads were introduced on a significantly smaller runtime just to also get no resolution. what do you mean the ultimate message is that the only way to fix something broken is to destroy it and start over. what do you mean this is good omens
I don't have the heart to elaborate more than this rn, but another aspect of the finale that fills me with dread regarding the human ending and the people that like to echo over and over again how sweet it is that they "find eachother in every universe", is that while "Asa" can -technically- pass as human Aziraphale, "Anthony" can only ever pass as pre-fall angel Crowley.
Even if you look at it from a more positive perspective and interpret the two humans we see as them despite them lacking their memories and history together (I don't), our Crowley still got nothing. They had to forcibly revert him back to "good boy" status and take away everything except his love of the stars. Because that's literally all Anthony has in common with the Crowley we see in the book and S1 and 2.
It genuinely makes me feel uneasy, I can't stand it.
And do NOT pull up in my comments insisting that it's okay actually because "that's just Crowley without his trauma!"
It's also Crowley without what made him himself in the first place. He was jaded because he cared so much and was made to fall for it. Wiping him of all of that because you think it was the only way for him to have ever been healed and happy is a terrible take.
They reduced crowley to the creation flashback and nothing else, but they did that for the entire episode tbh
The one and only good thing I'll ever say about the finale is demon Aziraphale as Lord Slorch the Vile. The plot is a mess and the story is lost, but I'd be willing to bet my shiniest coin that Michael Sheen had the most fun playing as a demon. It says a lot that Aziraphale behaved the most like himself (imo) at that point.
Maybe a controversial statement, but season 3 (and the ineffable) didn't ruin itself because we got Asa and Professor Anthony J. It was ruined because Aziraphale and Crowley weren't themselves. No amount of them being together would have mattered because at no point were those the same characters we fell in love with during season 2, and even less so season 1 (not to mention the book, but thats another story)
Isn't it funny how rain can be both the perfect time to be alone and the perfect time to cuddle?
How sun can both light your way but also blind you fully?
Maybe I was never the problem alone. Maybe I was just the problem in that context
In FMA: Brotherhood, Truth takes from you the thing that best represents what you want from the world.
I wonder if I still have in me something worth enough to trade. And why do I hope truth would take my heart, so that I know I can still love in the way a child loves a friend?
I'm not tired yet, I just forgot how to get up again. But once I remember, I'll be amazing
It is just so easy for a shield to be sharpened into a weapon. I don't think I was always as distant, as ready to break everything in my path. But I know at one point I wished to be, to be able to stop caring as to avoid pain. To not be called weird, unlovable, different. To take those words and move on, arrogantly believing all were wrong but me. Was it always also hurting others, or have I made it into a weapon eventually?
