Laeponia “Indy” Indso (she/her) is a 64 year old Venpalan who works as a General in the Collective Starfleet and looks a lot like Elizabeth Debicki.
Biography
Venpalans as a whole are known for their political prowess, military acumen, and public service — and the great Indso family is by far the rule much more than it is the exception.
A family line that cared far more for ability than genetics, it wasn’t uncommon for Indsos to be adopted; which Laeponia and her elder sister Herevia were, taken into the fold and taught the proud Indso history and tradition, handed small training swords and pistols the moment they could walk. Even at a young age their training was grueling and held them to high expectations, expectations that Herevia and Laeponia met again and again as they grew.
Herevia was Laeponia’s closest confidante and her sparring partner rolled into one, and their trainer their father, Caesius Indso — a direct descendant of one of the greatest Generals to serve ( and die ) in the First Contact War. He taught them his skills but he also taught them his biases; Laeponia matured quickly, but grew to resent humans and hold close a general suspicion of species unlike her own. Marcelio, Caesius’ husband and their other father, did what he could to undo those biases. A medic rather than a fighter, Marcelio saved Caesius’ life on the battlefield, and the two had been inseparable since. Marcelio taught their daughters softness when he could, something Laeponia took to far more frequently than her sister.
It came as no surprise to anyone, least of all their fathers, when Herevia and Laeponia enlisted in the Collective Fleet the moment they each came of age. Both were exceptional soldiers who climbed the ranks with fluid ease, respected by their peers and fearsome fighters to those who stepped foot out of line. Herevia became a General first, and Laeponia was quick to follow in her sister’s and father’s footsteps. She trained and studied relentlessly — free time was still training, because as far as Laeponia was concerned, training was leisure. Studying was leisure. Like a shark, she assumed — feared, even — if she stopped moving for even a moment, she might die. She accepted the most far-flung missions in the most active zones, cultivating a reputation as an adept political liaison as well as a fighter.
To be selected as the highest ranking officer of the Collective Fleet in the assimilation of the newest species since the human race was a tremendous honor — Laeponia didn’t, however, expect to be left behind.
Her family, of course, insisted to her it was more of an honor than it was intended as a slight, even as Laeponia could barely contain her disappointment at being tied to the Leoran Collective Embassy like a heavy iron anchor. Marcelio in particular seemed thrilled for his youngest daughter; he took her face in his gentle hands and told her, “Maybe this is the universe finally telling you to take a moment to stand still, my little star.”
Laeponia only hoped she could figure out how to do that without dying.
Personality
Tightly wound and generally uncompromising, Laeponia exemplifies the rigid stereotype many Venpalans are saddled with. Despite inwardly questioning her position as a punishment more than an honor, she follows orders to the letter — as always — and takes her appointment with grave severity. Somewhere deep inside, Marcelio’s softness is buried — but few are likely to be able to glimpse it.
Sotiris is… not the ideal home, for someone like Laeponia. She finds their short work hours wasteful and much of their leisure activities frivolous. Given full governance, she’d tear out the meditation cove entirely and replace it with training facilities. Leorans are both a curiosity and a frustration. The one thing Laeponia will admit to enjoying is their tech — she was quick to commission an energy core converter and even quicker to learn how to use it.
As it stands, Laeponia doesn’t dislike Sotiris or its inhabitants — she simply doesn’t fit in, and with an expectation she’ll be allowed to return to her life of interstellar adventure eventually, she doesn’t have too many plans to try and fit in, beyond what her duties demand of her.
Welcome home @general-indso! We’re happy to have you in Sotiris.
