        Blonde hair scraped back behind her ears, nose scrunched in concentration, Angel’s angelic features began to warp, to change. It was a gift she had only mastered once, or twice. Mostly due to the level of difficulty involved, not that she could ever admit that to the others, especially Max. Angel was the most talented one; it was her place in the flock. Otherwise, she was just the baby. 

                      Exertion, however, was immediate. Her features returned to usual, and she kicked irritably at the side of the wall. Dank and dark, this had been Max’s last choice of hideaway, but it was indeed the safest. Angel had never shared her sister’s ( because for all intents and purposes, Max was her sister ) claustrophobia. The confined spaces that scared the older girl, or at least the closest Max came to scared, felt  w a r m  and safe to Angel. Cradled by the darkness, she found it much easier to sleep there. But not tonight.
