so in my greek class we were talking about oral composition and how something like the iliad must have been composed, and my prof asked us to consider how we would rapidly compose something like poetry on the spot. and i think it was a really important exercise not just for understanding the construction of an oral epic but also for reminding us of how great works can come from supposedly “humble” origins. so if anyone is ever snobby about their homer, just remind them that, as my professor put it, the iliad is basically ancient freestyle rap, and homer is much closer to jay z than to f. scott fitzgerald

So I am teaching my students about haiku and thought I would challenge myself to create at least one in the spare time I have between lesson planning and uni work. I don’t think they quite grasped the concept of imagery today so we will be going through that while we work on creating their own haiku. I’m looking forward to seeing their final pieces.

I now understand why so many teachers become jaded. I drove myself to tears trying to create resources and plan a differentiated lesson for my year 8s only to have them argue and complain. I think I had 6 out of 26 students actually looking at me when I was explaining stations and how to transition. I’ve tried to incorporate focused goals for the lesson under #GOALS and was laughed at. I felt so disheartened that I think I’m going to have to change my pedagogy for my final prac.

Ink master really grinds my gears

So I'm watching the team Nunez vs team peck where they have to work as a team to compose some back pieces and the women who take charge are instantly labelled witchy and bossy. Like it's already such a sausage fest just respect every one for their talent

Reversed Marking

If you’re like me and end up marking entire pages with your pretty pink, blue, yellow or green marker because ‘everything is important’ this will work for you!

Copy the pages of your book. If it is a .pfd print the pages you have to study. This way you won’t ruin your book to the point that it is no longer readable.

Grab a black permanent marker. You’ll use this to strike out every part of the text that is of no use to what you’re supposed to be studying. You can use any kind of marker you want. In the picture below I have 3 different kinds, though I usually go for the one in the middle. If you do not want to strike/cross out the words with a black marker you could also use the handy little blue tool. It’s like a correction fluid, but not in its fluid form. (in the Netherlands we call it tippex)

IF you accidentally crossed out something you didn’t want crossed out you can always add it in pen. or if you want to add more information from another source that wasn’t in your book you could write it next to the text as well!
