James smoothed out his vest which hadn’t been much of a hit with the purebloods at the party. Not that he was aiming to impress them. He’d gone for semiformal with slacks, a nice prim white undershirt and a beige vest to go over it because a suit and tie was far too stiff for him. He’d never grown accustomed to that kind of wear. Far too restricting and stifling for him. Though it seemed like he was really out of luck when it came to the clothes department this evening. Considering just as he was lifting his head after readjusting his vest, liquid came flying onto his vest and a body also came toppling forward.

James found it far more pertinent to grab onto the girl - Rodericks - who’d tripped, steadying her before looking down at his clothes, laughing it off. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it. Who knows, this may be an improvement to how it looked before. You didn’t twist your ankle or anything did you?”

[ The girl scrunched up her nose, raising an eyebrow at James’ words— she, herself, wasn’t too fond of the vest the boy was wearing but, instead of saying anything or confirming his statement, Gwen let out a laugh and made sure that her feet were firmly planted on the floor; the hand that had instinctively grabbed onto his arm moving up to brush her hair out of her face. ]

——— “ I’m fine, really, tripped over nothing which isn’t very uncommon— I’m more concerned about you walking around in wet clothes. I could try a drying charm? ”

[ Her lips curled into a pleasant smile, thinking that maybe she’d be able to have some company that didn’t sound too sarcastic, sassy or downright rude— she loved them all dearly, but her fellow students hadn’t been in the best of spirits lately. ]

[ Gwen wasn’t sure what she was doing at that party, wasn’t exactly sure she wanted to be there— a part of her wanted to find somewhere quiet to nap, the other craved people and noise; she needed people, she fed off them. The curly-haired witch was a people-person: a bright lights and nice music, long nights up and watching the sunrise— but she felt tired tonight and she wondered just why Professor Sargon had thrown the thing in the first place, and why she’d gotten an invitation. The man didn’t seem too fond of her.

But she put on a nice dress and made her way into the crowd of students, too wrapped up in her thoughts to stop her drink from toppling onto someone else’s front as she managed to trip over her own feet. ]
