I want to start an upload blog but I don't know how to gain followers :( Adding tags to my posts for engagement feels so tacky but I know I'm just starting out so I guess that's just standard practice? What worked for you?
hey there!!
i answered a similar question in the past here if you want to check it out! but i’ll answer this one too :)
to be honest i don’t entirely know if i’m a blog that’s that successful in numbers! i see a lot of people with so many more followers on bio and they care for their blog so differently than me! so this is just what i do lol
i personally never felt like tags made that much of a difference… hence why i stopped using them a long time ago! to me what worked is pushing out stuff somewhat consistently; what really works is the traction of your posts.
i think it took me a year to see clear progress on my numbers. (and it was tiny.) but the thing is, what you post will be reblogged a certain amount of times. then it stops. but maybe months, years later it will light up again. what i mean is, the more posts you have out, the more chances you’ve got of growing (even those that didn’t do well at first!). and frequency is important bc the same people are not always on tumblr — there are new on hyatus, or abandoned blogs every day, and you have to still be there for when and if they come back, and for new users.
i also think that having big expectations for tumblr is not going to work haha. you really have to be patient to see the progress and enjoy it in the meantime not to give up.
my process is, i have an account on ig where i make a selection of users that have content that’s interesting to me (but i’m also always searching for something new); i save stuff in a collection; then i queue stuff for the next like, 6mos at least; then i repeat. i think it’s not as exhausting as having to do all this more frequently. but you can find out other ways of organizing that might work best for you.
idk if i answered your questions exactly, so please let me know!! and good luck :)
