The real-life Victorians were very much enamored of decoration for decoration’s sake; where a historical Victorian lady would deck her hat out in flowers and taxidermy birds, it makes sense her steampunk counterpart would do the same with gears and clock faces and goggles.

I have also heard the theory that in a steampunk world engineers would be very respected people, so peoples fashion could be loaned from the engie, explaining how goggles became a fashion object

Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. I feel i need to adress something. When the second world war ended, germans claimed they did not know what happened to the jewish. They had no idea it was that bad. But in this day and age, with our technology, we cannot let this happen. We /know/ and we have to act. I am asking, begging, you americans, many my friends. Go out there. Riot. Set up a petition. Rebel. Don't let this happen, not again.

Irish town builds memorial to thank Native Americans who helped during Famine

A sculpture of nine eagle feathers will be installed in Bailic Park, in Midleton, Co Cork to thank the Choctaw Indians for their kindness and support during the Great Irish Famine.

Despite the oppression faced by the Choctaws in the years preceding the famine, on hearing of the plight and hunger of the Irish people in 1847, they raised $170 to send to the Irish people and ease their suffering. This figure is equivalent to tens of thousands of dollars in today’s currency.

The sculpture, consisting of nine giant, stainless steel eagle feathers, is currently being completed by Cork sculptor Alex Pentek. Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Pentek says, “I wanted to show the courage, fragility and humanity that they displayed in my work.”
