13.04.26. 💐🌷 spring has fully arrived! and with it my first productive writing day in what feels like forever. i enjoyed some homemade carrot cake and a london fog while writing and i think that helped motivate me :)

thoughts on footnotes? specifically when used in professional (academic, legal, etc.) writing

unnecessary. i don’t like them and don’t use them

useful. i love them and use them

#one of my law professors said: if it’s important enough to be in a footnote it’s important enough to be in the body of your paragraph #i understand that but think they can be useful #i kinda treat them like tumblr tags #i love using them to add context that isn’t necessary but might be helpful #or if a citation is really fkn long and messes with the flow of an argument
