Today's pick: not the map (a lovely Coronelli Madagascar) but its dedicatee, the Florentine librarian and bibliophile Antonio di Marco Magliabechi (1633-1714). Coronelli would give sought his favor as a scholar and correspondent, but we are struck by his character as preserved in this bust by Antonio Montaiuti. Magliabechi was reputed to have worn his clothes until they fell from him, and would not undress for bed "life being so short and books so plentiful." #raremaps #geographicusantiquemaps #li #quitehandywiththeladies https://www.instagram.com/p/CAV8Y0XJSa_/?igshid=3fukhen6rqa5
