"OSCity (Open Source City) brings the Dutch spatial planning together with the newest information technology. By directly searching, visualizing and combining spatial data everybody is invited - from citizen, entrepreneur, designer and civil servant - to gain insight into everything that is spatial.
With this OSCity tries to create broad perspectives which offer a basis for an innovative spatial planning that can tackle problems of social cohesion, sustainability and generates value for the public good."

Pizza and Geography
http://flowingdata.com/2013/10/14/pizza-place-geography/
Check out this bit of pizza deliciousness. Great aggregated data. I wonder though about within-region comparisons. Western NY state is a great place for a slice, especially Buffalo, because a pizza can be consumed that was made by a local or so-called 'mom and pop' shop; as opposed to a chain. Great map though.

bit.ly Blog As I write this, USA Today is Michigan’s favorite newspaper site, Fox News’ site tops those of other broadcasters in North Carolina, and BuzzFeed is the most important online site in Louisiana. That could all change in 10 minutes, according to a new map from bit.ly that visualizes how news sites are consumed online, based on recent link-sharing traffic.

A very useful tool for starting a conversation about the importance of understanding the role location plays in the formation of opinions. Great base -data that could be intersected with any slice of demographic data.
A Chinese topographic map (with the south positioned at the top) from Mawangdui tomb 3; dated to the early Western Han period (183–168 BC); ink on silk.
The map depicts a large territory in southern China spanning from the imperial fiefdom of Changsha (a semi-autonomous kingdom within the Han Empire, now modern-day Hunan) to the independent and sometimes hostile Kingdom of Nanyue in what is now modern-day Guangdong and northern Vietnam.

The discovery of a cave so large that there is a cloud in it
A team of expert cavers and photographers had been exploring caves in the Chongquing province of China - when they were amazed to discover the entrance to a hidden cave that was previously undiscovered. When they entered the cave, they found it was so large there was even a cloud inside it. Photographer and caver Robbie Shone, from Manchester, was part of a team of 15 explorers on a month-long expedition who stumbled across the natural wonder.
