Saint Margaret and the Devil

This detail by Sienese master Barna da Siena depicts Saint Margaret of Antioch (Marina) physically overpowering a demon. Imprisoned for her faith, she uses a hammer to beat the devil, symbolizing the triumph of virtue over temptation.
