It’s my first time posting on Tumblr in FOREVER, but I painted this tonight, thinking of David Bowie and his passing a year ago, and I wanted to share it with folks who might also be missing him today.. If you were one of the weird kids in school--crazy clothes, technicolor hair, too much make up, loving every minute, but definitely getting called names every day in the halls--David Bowie was almost sacred. He just didn't care, or he acted like he didn't. He made weird glamorous. He took the guilt away from indulging in a little vanity to get that glitter eye shadow just so. I'd come home, put his albums on, do my homework, dream of life after high school, and know there were outlets to celebrate art and music and expression and maybe all of those things and everything else all at once.David Bowie gave everyone permission to try out new versions of themselves and if you live a long time, that's a pretty great thing to get comfortable with! Patron saint of beautiful weirdos. Shine on forever, Starman.
