A trip to the hospital was not something Georgie had planned to do with her night but she’d fallen and caught herself on her left wrist. It hurt to move it and she was sure it was starting to bruise. The whole incident could’ve been avoided, Georgie knew not to put your hands out when you fall but she’d done it almost on instinct.
An annoyed sigh escaped her as she sat in the ER, swollen wrist wrapped in a melting bag of ice. She could’ve just left it but her friends had insisted she get it checked out. She just hoped her boss didn’t suddenly need her for something tonight.
Her name was called and she followed the nurse back towards the bed. She’d been here for almost 2 hours now but she couldn’t blame them; a potentially broken wrist wasn’t high up on the emergency room injury list, she was sure. With a pout she hoisted herself up onto the bed with her uninjured hand, legs kicking idly over the edge.

Ezra had no idea which way to turn next. He’d started his shift this evening at seven and within three hours, he’d had to deal with two cardiac arrests, a drunk and an elderly, confused male, The stress was insane and with no staff, the pressure was most definitely piled on. His next patient was a young female with a wrist injury. Ezra had quickly flicked through her notes before calling her through. It seemed his patient had experienced a fall and had landed awkwardly on her left wrist, and at first glance, it definitely looked swollen.
“Hi, I’m Ezra.. One of the staff nurses here. Can I confirm with you your name and date of birth?” He asked, holding the female’s notes within his grasp. “And can you tell me what happened? How would you rate your pain? Between one and ten.. One being almost none and ten being the worst pain you’ve experienced.” He offered her a warm smile, despite feeling exhausted.
Georgie sighed a little, shifting her injured arm to rest lightly on her thighs. She eyed the nurse curiously as he started to speak, questions on questions all at once. She wondered if he always worked so fast or if he was just slammed. It seemed like the hospital was slammed, if she was honest.
“Georgie Anne Sloane,” Georgie replied slowly, lip twitching upwards slightly. She probably didn’t need to include her middle name but she needed to amuse herself somehow. “Birthday is the 12th of August, 1994,” she continued in a drawl, letting her Southern accent shine through even more.
She sighed then, head tilting to the side in annoyance. Not at the nurse, Ezra but at herself. She knew better and yet, she’d still ended up with an injury. “I was at a roller disco. Skates not blades. I bumped into someone, lost my balance and went down. Put my hand out to catch myself, dumb thing to do I know. I kind of...jarred it? Thought I did at least. Got up and kept skating for a bit until it started to like....ache and throb? Realised it was starting to swell and uh, came here,” Georgie explained, expression settled in unimpressed.
She felt like she’d ruined a good night out with her friends. Not to mention she was worried about how she’d work. Her job involved a lot of carrying things.
“As for pain? I guess, a 4 or 5 now. When I hurt it, it was like a 6 or 7. We put ice on it and I guess that helped. Or least numbed my wrist,” Georgie continued with a dry little chuckle. “Don’t think it’s broken though. That’s a plus at least.”
