My thoughts on the newest Druck clip.

This had to be have been done to show contrast to how Mailin is acting towards Finn. Mailin has been coming onto Finn in uncomfortable and often physical ways. Kissing him suddenly with no warning, jumping into his arms, wearing sexy clothes, etc. They aren’t in a relationship (not exclusively), Finn’s shown no signs of being eager for any of that, but Mailin persisted.

Now we have Ben. Ben is interested in Mailin - he thinks she’s hot and he likes spending time with her. He grabs her suddenly and this isn’t what she wanted. He apologizes, says he’s into her and tries to make it right (offers her drinks, talks about what he did and why, then gives her the lead “Call me if you want to”).

All things that Mailin hasn’t actually offered Finn. She hasn’t explained why she does things to him, she makes excuses to leave or have him leave. Now, I’m not vilifying Mailin! She’s brand new to this and doesn’t know the rules, doesn’t realize what’s she’s doing makes Finn uncomfortable and thus is now bothered that he’s pulling away from her.

Thus the contrast. She needs an outside person to show her the way she’s been treating Finn. So that’s why we have Ben. We have Ben because here’s someone who does like Mailin back and shows it in both his words and his actions. He talks things through, apologizes when he’s wrong, offers solutions. This will help show Mailin how things are supposed to be done.
