Carey listened to his brother as he talked and nodded. âWhy have you never said anything?â Carey asked before continuing, âYes youâre here because of Larkin. He went too far this time, Cluey.â He chewed on the inside of his lip. âWeâve told the truth so hopefully heâs out of your life for good.â Carson swallowed the lump that had grew in the back of her throat as Carey told their brother what happened. âYou have us and thatâs all that matters.â Carson told him interrupting Carey after all Clu had asked her to give it to him straight. She wasnât going to hold back. âWe should have said something about this sooner instead of letting you suffer. Thatâs on us and we have to deal with that, okay? Not you, you just focus on being a teenager in love with his first real girlfriend. The first person he has ever let in besides us. Clu Davies, you are worth so much more than what he makes you feel.â Her voice edged with poison when she mentioned Larkin.
At his words Clu chewed on the inside of his lip. âBecause you all already had enough to deal with.â There went his eyes again feeling so heavy he closed them and it took him several minutes to regain control over them. âI mean you literally save people for twelve hours, Care. And Cars and Clarkey are important too. Iââ He stopped inhaling slightly catching a second wind, âIâm nothing.â Clarke wanted to protest her little brothers words. â You arenât nothing Clu Davies Baxter. You are one of hell of a little brother you just got stuck with a bad hand.â She chewed on her lip and Clu welcomed the pause in his speech. âHeâs not going to let me. He kidnapped her and killed me literally.â
