One can not take a trip to Northern California without making a stop at the birthplace of Apple. It is reported that in 1976, in this garage, Steve Jobs and Wozniak put together the boards of their first computer, the Apple I. It was only a couple of years later that they moved to Cupertino, not far from the company's current campus, on Bandley Drive. “Cupid’s Span” is a monumental outdoor sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Brugge. This one of kind work of art is located at a small park at the end of the Embarcadero along the San Francisco Bay. The artwork has received mixed reviews, and whether you love it or hate it, it’s undeniably unique. One cannot go to San Francisco without taking a ride on the World Famous Cable Car. The San Francisco Cable Car is the world’s last manually operated cable car system. Only three lines remain of this iconic transportation system, which is listed by nearly 7 million tourist on a yearly basis. Alcatraz Island is a 25-acre island located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay. The island used to be home to the military fort and notorious maximum-security federal prison that housed the likes of Al Capone, as well as the site of the Indian “Red River Movement". Alcatraz offers visitors a hands on opportunity to experience history. People while on the island, can view the spectacular gardens, breathtaking city panoramas, and the abundance of wildlife. The 16th Ave Titled Steps project is a neighborhood effort that worked to create beautiful mosaic work of art of the 163 steps that are located at the intersection of 16th Ave and Moraga. This project was led by artists Aileen Bar and Colette Crutcher, along with 300 neighbors that worked together to make this masterpiece a reality. “Painted Ladies” is a term in American architecture used for Victorian houses and buildings painted in there or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details. The most famous of these “Painted Ladies” in San Francisco, is a row of Victorian Houses at 710-720 Steiner Street, across from Alamo Square park. This past week I got to cross an item off of my #QuarterLifeKrises bucket list, and that was to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco, down PCH. Unfortunately, we had to go in and out of Route 1 because of the horrible weather conditions, but we did get to be on it long enough to pass by the famous Bixby Bridge in Big Sur, CA. One cannot go to San Francisco without spotting these gigantic vibrant hearts scattered all throughout the city. “Hearts in San Francisco” is a charity art project that debuted in 2004, that worked to raise money and awareness for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (@sfghfoundation). Many of these heart are still on public display, while some of have moved on into private collections. While in SF, I was able to spot some in Union Square, and (thanks to @jhope133) down by Pier 39.
