Bassanio
Bassanio comes in. He reads the menu aloud slowly. The Starbucks muzak cuts out as soon as he gets to the cafe mocha. He orders this. Portia drinks it. She gives the cardboard ring around the cup to Bassanio, making him promise to never lose it. He immediately gives it to a lawyer typing away at a laptop in the corner of the Starbucks. Portia deserves better.
The Prince of Arragon
The Prince of Arragon comes in and orders an iced caramel macchiato. The barista hands him a picture of a fool instead. He has chosen wrong.
The Prince of Morocco
The Prince of Morocco comes in and orders a caramel flan latte. The barista hands him a skull instead. He has chosen wrong.
Portia
Portia goes up to the counter, but she isn’t allowed to order for herself. She must wait until the right man comes along to order the correct drink.
Hotspur
Hotspur goes up to the counter and expounds upon the importance of honour for twenty minutes until the barista begs him to just order something already. No one in the Starbucks was questioning his honour in the first place.
Please stop complaining about people’s thick accents. They learned an entire language, allowing them to communicate with you; the least you could do is respect that.
