i made this comic after a series of frustrating conversations in which dudes told me to ‘learn to take a joke’ instead of getting upset about transphobia in the media. i laugh a lot, but i’m not gonna laugh at anything that dehumanizes me. because its not just a show, its my whole life. these are just some moments from the last ten years. i could go on. but also, yay comics! :D
Transfeminism is primarily a movement by and for trans women who view their liberation to be intrinsically linked to the liberation of all women and beyond. It is also open to other queers, intersex people, trans men, non-trans [cis] women, non-trans [cis] men, and others who are sympathetic to the needs of trans women and consider their alliance with trans women to be essential for their own liberation. … Transfeminism is not about taking over existing feminist institutions. Instead, it extends and advances feminism as a whole through our own liberation and coalition work with all others. It stands for trans and non-trans [cis] women alike and asks non-trans [cis] women to stand up for trans women in return. Transfeminism embodies feminist coalition politics in which women from different backgrounds stand up for each other, because if we do not stand for each other, nobody will.

I felt validated when people stated I was exceptional or unique or that I was not the norm. Basking in these proclamations, I soon realized something was amiss: If I’m the exception, the so-called standard of success, then where does that leave the sisters I grew up with on the streets of Honolulu who didn’t ‘make it’? Being exceptional isn’t revolutionary, it’s lonely. It separates you from your community. Who are you, really, without community? I have been held up consistently as a token, as the ‘right’ kind of trans woman (educated, able-bodied, attractive, articulate, heteronormative). It promotes the delusion that because I ‘made it,’ that level of success is easily accessible to all young trans women. Let’s be clear: It is not.

just a few of the signs we made today for our rally on april 24 starting at 8:30AM! thanks to everyone who came out.
People assume that I was in the closet because I didn’t disclose that I was assigned male at birth. What people are really asking is ‘Why didn’t you correct people when they perceived you as a real woman?’ Frankly, I’m not responsible for other people’s perceptions and what they consider real or fake. We must abolish the entitlement that deludes us into believing we have the right to make assumptions about people’s identities and project those assumptions onto their gender and bodies. It is not a woman’s duty to disclose she’s trans to every person she meets. This is not safe for a myriad of reasons. We must shift the burden of coming out from trans women, and accusing them of hiding or lying, and focus on why it is unsafe for women to be trans.

"Sex-positivity" refers to a political movement and/or ideology which promotes and celebrates safe, consensual sex in all forms. If someone is sex-positive, that tells you nothing about whether they are willing to have sex—there is, in fact, a pretty long history of aces (both sexually...
People are allowed to be repulsed by sex.
People are allowed to be uncomfortable with nudity.
People are allowed to be uncomfortable with genitalia, their own or others.
There are so many reasons why people may feels this way, from dysphoria to being asexual to coping with sexual assault to just straight up that’s how they feel.
And that’s ok.
At about age 14, boys feel like they have to start bullshitting about their sexual exploits in order to survive. The pressure on these kids is just too great for them to speak frankly about it. Ignore what everyone says about their sex lives. They are lying, all of them, at least a little.

It really pisses me off that if a man has an orgasm in a movie, the rating is PG-13, but if a woman does the rating is R. I mean think about it. Rape is allowed in PG-13 movies. It is considered more appropriate to see a man forcing himself on a woman while she screams from fear and pain than it is to see a woman enjoying sex.
